RICHMOND MAY SEND ATHLETES TO STATE TEST If High Track Men Make Required Records School Will Enter Team in Indianapolis Meet.
High school may be represented in the twelfth annual track and field meet of the Indiana High School Athletic association, to be held at the Federal ball park in Indianapolis, May 15. The announcements were mailed from the office of A. I Trester, secretary of the association, to the principals of 294 high schools in the state. The meet is expected to be the largest ever held by the state association. Entries for the meet are to close May 5. To be eligible to enter every contestant must have previously made, in a fair test, a record equal to the following in every event in which he is entered. Records are required as follows: One hundred-yard dash, 11 seconds; 220-yard dash, 26 seconds; 440-yard dash. 58 seconds; half-mile run, 2 minutes, 20 seconds; mile run, 5 minutes, 15 seconds; 120-yard high hurdles, 19 seconds; 220-yard low hurdles, 29 seconds; running high jump, 5 feet; running broad jump, 19 feet; pole vault, 8 feet 9 inches; putting Bhot (12-pound) 26 feet; throwing discus, 90 feet. The above, together with a mile relay, will constitute the events in the meet. Local track aspirants are working with the end that they will be able to make records which will warrant sending them to the meet. Providing they do, Principal Pickell and Coach Nohr will see that they are entered. An inter-group track and field mee,t will be arranged to be sandwiched in between the Liberty meet and the Central track and field meet. $8,000,000 LOST IN INDIANA FIRES Approximately $8,000,000 worth of Indiana property went up in flame and smoke during the year 1914, according to the annual report of State Fire Marshal W. E. Longley, which was given to Governor Ralston today. Marion county suffered the greatest loss, with a total number of 1,160 fires, while Vanderburg county ranked second with 451. Lake county was third wth 338 fires, and Madison county fourth with 337 fires. Of the 166 incendiary fires, 31 "firebugs" were arrested, of whom 11 were convicted and 4 acquitted. Juries disagreed in 3 cases and 1 man was murdered before his trial. Other cases are pending. Fires of "unknown origin" predominated during the year. These numbered 1,762, while 1,332 were caused by sparks from chimneys, and 1,266 were the result of defective flues. Fire Marshal Longley urges in his report that a portion of the idle time of city firemen be utilized each day for inspection work, thereby decreasing the demand for his services as a fire fighter. Cause of Sleeplessness. Sleeplessness often results from a disordered stomach. Correct that and you can sleep as well as ever. Mrs. Mae Ingersoll, Pulaski, N. Y., was troubled with Indigestion and headache. "I was so restless at night," she says, "that I could not sleep. Chamberlain's Tablets were so highly recommended that I got a, bottle of them and soon after I began taking them I was very much improved. Two bottles of them cured me." Obtainable everywhere. adv. Chicago went into the lead in the Garfield last night at the playground when she defeated the leading Boston nine by the lopsided score of 14 to 0. Too much E. Runnels, twlrler for the Chicago team caused the downfall. Runnels is perhaps the classiest youngster of his age in the city. He allowed the Bostons only 2 hits and was never in danger of being scored on. Ewbanks, the Boston backstop, probably played the steller game for his team and was credited with the only hits made by the team. Red Joins Team; Manager Forgets Try out Promise
Frank (Red) Ireton is peeved. This Is the way things have been going for him, and who wouldn't feel a little peeved. Previous to the Bay CityMaxwell game at. New Castle Sunday some one wrot Red and offered him a try-out with the Bay City club, offering to pay his expenses to and from New Castle. Red went, and reported at the grounds, and when he told them that he was ready to play, the manager of the team evidently forgot that he was to use him and ignored Richmond's popular idol, and Red had to be content to witnessthe game from the side. "All right," says Mr. Ireton, "I'll report the case to Charley Farrell, secretary of the National commission, and try and get a settlement out of you. I'll attend to the matter just as soon as I get back home. Red started back home in Tommy Ritter's car and after getting as far as the city limits the machine went bad and Red started out on a dog trot to get home. Tommy, in the meantime, had had his machine repaired and caught up with Red near Millville and took him on into Hagerstown, where Red offered to get home. Tommy and his party dished up 50 cents for expense money and arranged for a room at Hagerstown, which Red accepted. Soft for him. He arrived home Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Immediately on his return to his city Manager Vigran of the Vigran S. A. L. team offered Ireton a place on his team, but Red has not decided whether or not he will accept the contract as made out. New Castle lost their game Sunday with the Bay City team, 24 to 1. Babe Walters, Romaine and Shindle, Maxwell twirlers, all suffered a bombardment. WHOOPING COUGH. Well everyone knows the eWect of Pine Forests on Coughs. Dr. Bell's Pine-Tar-Honey is a remedy which brings quick relief for Whooping Cough, loosens the mucous, soothes the lining of the throat and lungs, and makes the coughing spells less severe. ROOP GOES WELL IN FIRST TRIAL
Carl Roop, who is slated to twirl for the Saginaw team in the game with the Richmond club at Athletic -park Sunday, had a good day last Sunday when be was in the box for a recruit team of the Saginaw club at Sidney. Car lwas in the box for five innings and during that time held the Sidney club down without a score. At the time he left the box the score stood 1 to 0 in favor of Saginaw. NOHR CHANGES DATE FOR LIBERTY MEET The track meet with Liberty has been moved up so high school will journey there on April 27 instead of May 8. The meet at Rushville will take place on May 8. One man. Dollins, in the high jump, is about the most likely looking man for points. If be does not go through the season without capturing a first in every meet in which he is entered. Coach Nohr will be surprised. Dollins bears all the promise in the world of developing into the best high jumper the school has ever turned out and it is predicted for him that if pressed he would clear the bar at 5 feet 6 inches. BOSTON AFTER GAME WITH LOCAL HIGH Boston township school has been after the local high school to send a baseball team to meet their school team, but owing to the fact that the school will not have a representative team this spring Nohr has been forced to turn down the overtures. However, he would be willing for a team to be made up and go down under the name of an outside organization, but to do this those making the trip would have to be passed favorably on in so far as grades are concerned by Mr. Pickell. The Boston teacher in trying to arrange the games says that not enough boys remain in school for him to turn out an all-school team and that he and another instructor would be forced into the lineup in case the game could be arranged. ITCHY SALT RHEUM Sometimes Called Eczema Removed By Hood's Sarsaparllla. Salt rheum is one of the worst and unfortunately one of the most com mon of all diseases. How it reddens ; the skin, itches, oozes, dries and scales; and then does this all over again! Some times it covers the whole body with inflamed, burning patches and causes intense suffering, which Is commonly worse at night. Local applications may do some good, but they can not permanently relieve. The disease will continue to annoy, pain and perhaps agonize, until the blood has been purified and the general health improved. Ask your druggist for Hood's Sarsaparilla, the good old reliable family remedy. It has given perfect satisfaction in thousands of cases. Insist on having Hood's Sarsaparllla, for no substitute acts like it . Get it today. Adv.
