THOMAS TO HEAVE IN K0K0M0 BATTLE FOR KENNEY'S NINE Richmond Manager Predicts Hard Times for Pitchers Who Face His Bunch of Club Swingers. But one probable change has been made by Manager Kenney in his lineup for the Kokomo game in that city Sunday, that being Bonde. a thirdsacker, who may get in the game in place of Laacke. Thomas, a pitcher, whom all semi-pro teams would give their hat to have, will very likely start on the mound for the locals, says Dick, while Kerns, the twirler from Hamilton, will be asked to finish the game. This will give Dick a line On both, and from their showing will depend whether or not they will be retained for the rest of the season. Kenney will have all the members of the team at his home in Covington tonight, and besides serving a sumptuous meal will get them together on signal work. He will give them the signals to be used this season, and they will be asked to become familiar with them before the game Sunday. r T.M -9 VftlrAtvtA nrinra
Kenney that there would be about three thousand fans out to see the game, and for the Richmond club to send them a team that would give them a battle. "Watch that Richmond crew Sunday," was Dick's answer, "and around about 5 p. m. your club will certainly think it has had a battle." After the Kokomo game comes the Saginaw game, and the manager wants to win from the leaguers. He predicts disastrous things for. the local lad, Carl Roop, who is slated to start the game for the Holmes crew. He says he bates to see a Richmond boy fail to make good, but the bunch of club swingers he is carrying will bring terror to many a twirler before the season is far advanced.

MERCHANTS OFFER BALL MEET PRIZES Plans. for the proposed field meet to be staged between the double-header of the S. A. L. on Decoration "day are going merrily on. Work of getting up a list of prizes has already started, one man expressing his willingness to award a pair of baseball shoes and a bat as his share toward making the meet a success. Still another buiness man has come across with the information that he will likewise offer prizes, but has not indicated what they would be. This would be the first baseball field meet ever staged in Richmond, and would tend to boost the game. It would be necessary to have judges to see that the meet -was run properly, and it has been suggested that Physical Director Nohr of the high school and Arthur Roach of the Y. M. C. A. be procured as timers and starters. The arbitration board of the league would also get an opportunity to act as officials of the meet, one as timekeeper, one as judge and the other to act as announcer.

Gossip Gleaned Where Fans of S. A, L. Gather
Johnny Holmes has finally been captured by the Natcos in the S. A. L. He agreed yesterday to play with the team and will add strength not only in the fielding but in the clouting end. Lee Summertson has agred to umpire in the league, but owing to other business, can give the league but part of his time. He will be alternate with Karl "Maje" Meyers, in case the latter cannot get out to the games but every other Saturday. It is possible that Meyers will be able to work regular, and if he can Summertson will not be used.
Natco has been invited by Lon Slack to use the Easthaven grounds Saturday for their work-out and Pucket has accepted. The Easthaven boys will also be on hand to limber up and it is possible that a short game might be arranged. This is only a work-out and result of the game, in case they should play, would not count in the S. A. L. percentage column.

Caught Off Bases of State League
itushville's I. S. L. team lost the first game Sunday at Hamilton, when the Krebs of that place took tbem over by a 3 to 1- count. The fielding of both teams was flashy in spots and several mid-season plays were pulled. The pitchers were not permitted to extend themselves, as the day was cold and damp. Both teams batted hard and it was only after the hardest kind of - work that Hamilton succeeded in getting the lead. Vordenburg, last year with the Richmond team, was in the box for Rushville, and the big boy had all his old speed working. Lefty Fox also worked for the Rushvillians.
