SATURDAY. A notable acquisition to the program

if famous plays in motion pictures produced by the Famous Players Film Co., comes in the form of a film vers-

on of "Clothes" the celebrated sen-

ational drama that started metro

politan society by Avery Hopwood and Channlng Pollock, based on Car-

yle's immortal line: "Society is

ounded Upon Cloth."

"Clothes" is a powerful contrast of

tove and desire, sham and sincerity, t is a true story in many respects,

pnly too true to the life it depicts so

ividly. It will be shown April 17.

TUESDAY. "The Heart Breaker" Muriel Os-

mche takes the leading part as

rhylis. Professors are popularly supoeed to have no taste for the frivol-

ties of a giddy world but once in a

rvhile they are jarred out of their ac-

rustomade routine by events over which they have no control. Prof. Sniffles, a fossilized instructor in archaeology and geology, lived an

txemplary life for twenty years and hen - jut here is the sad story of his

Downfall.

At the opening of the Bleeding

Heart seminary, Phylis, a natural hoy-

Jen, is brought before the Amazonian matron, Mrs. Saxe, by her spinister aunt, who tells the matron that Phylis

s incorrigible and needs correction. Phylis confides in the other school

girls and learns that they are inclined

o be frolicsome if given the chance.

She Is chosen at once as their leader and they plan some gay pranks. After tier aunt is gone, Phylis is called before Mrs. Saxe, who gives her a severe lecture, thinking to scare her. The

lecture, however, only increases her

desire to make trouble.

Arcade Films SUNDAY. A unique effect is produced in a scene of the Essanay photoplay "The Strength of the Weak." Bryant Washbum Is shown sitting at a table with a hypodermic needle before him, fighting the temptation to take morphine. Into the same picture there flashes the form of an imp, about a foot high, who rises through the boards of the table. It is the imp of the drug who appears to entice the slave of the drug to further dissipation. The effect is obtained by a double masked exposure. The imp is a real, live actor of normal size. "The Capitulation of the Major" A gouty and retired military officer, Major Andrews, governs his household with military discipline and feels double responsibility for his vivacious daughter, Lillian. Every morning before breakfast he has the butler blow Reveile on the bugle, while the gardener fires a small cannon and hoists the American flag on the lawn. The Major has a strong aversion to young men. Jack is deeply in love with Lilian and she with him, but the Major has little use for him. The Major "entertains" the young man by explaining very earnestly to him by means of a large map the progress of the war in Europe. Finally, poor Jack manages to escape and join Lillian while the old fellow is hunting his mis-placed glasses. They start to play golf, but when the Major discovers their absence he starts out after them, wild with rage, and commands Lillian to march herself into the house.

MONDAY AND TUESDAY. George Carter, a revolutionist in South America, is the exact double of Frederick Marston, a famous artist in Paris. Carter is betrayed by a comrade and is sentenced to be shot. He takes a desperate chance and escapes

to London. In Paris Marnton is stabbed by a

model because he does not return her

love. The wound incapacitates him from painting, and leaves an ugly scar, and he goes to America on a vacation. Highwaymen attack him, inflicting injuries which cause a total loss of memory. The robbers leave nothing in his pockets but the key to his Paris studio, and Marston adopts the name of Robert Anglo-Saxon. Five years later he falls in love with Duska Filson, a noted beauty, and at a dinner given by her he meets Gen. Robero, a South American ambassador, the man who condemned Carter to death. Robero believes Saxon is Carter and writes Saxon a letter warning him that if he marries Duska he will have Saxon extradited to South America and shot.

The crooks take a fancy to the "boy." Hogan introduces her to the rest of the gang. Out of Bayard Veiller's underworld melodrama, "The Fight," George W. Lederer has made a five-part photo drama that is proving the biggest success in motion pictures. The story is of a woman's fight against the corruption that permeates the city in which she wants to be mayor. Jane Thomas (played by Margaret Wycherly) is young and lovely, she wants to clean up things when she gets to be mayor. Jane Thomas' candidacy raised "hell" among the crooked politicians and vice merchants of the city, so they thought to compromise her in public esteem by inveigling her to a roadhouse of questionable character and photagraphing, her in the company of a man. The scheme failed as also did a manufactured run upon Jane's bank. Finally, Vance, a dance hall keeper, when Jane called upon him to demand the release of a girl who bad been decoyed into that den of infamy, locked her in a room and threatened her life. But she is rescued and Vance is killed. Two characters in particular are finely drawn, John E. Kelled as Vance, the hunchback keeper of. the alleged resort, and Margaret Wycherly as Jane Thomas, the woman who wanted to be mayor. Both are stars of the original New York Hudson success. The picture will be shown at the Palace two days, Wednesday and Thursday. THE DANCER AND THE KING. For high-class photo-play, nothing has ever been shown in this city that will surpass in beauty and dramatic strength the World Film corporation's five-part production of Charles Bleney's success, "The Dancer and the King," to be shown at the Palace tomorrow, splendidly acted, elaborate

settings and perfect photography makes this film stand out as one of the features of the season. Cecil Spooner, the popular stage star, takes

the rol of the dancer.
