FAILURE TO APPEAR CAUSES SUIT'S LOSS Failure for the third or fourth time this year to appear In court with his witnesses lost William J. Brown a chance to press a claim of f 961 against the estate of Henry Williams. The case was set for trial this morning and the attorneys for the estate brought a dozen witnesses to the court room, but Brown was not present. The Judge extended the time for his appearance until noon and then dismissed the case in favor of the estate, leaving the court costs for the plaintiff to pay. A short time ago a jury was called to hear the case and Brown failed to appear. Brown says he took care of
Williams during a long period of ill ness preceding his death.
COUNTY SAVES BY SENDING PRISONERS TO PENAL FARM
ASKS RECEIVER FOR ANCHOR INSURANCE
INDIANAPOLIS, April 9.On request of the auditor of state Attorney General Milburn today asked the superior court to name a receiver for the Anchor Insurance company. It is said that policy holders are protected and the losses if any will fall on the investors. The request for suit for receivership came after an investigation which began immediately after the beginning of this year when a request; for the yearly statement made by the insurance department of the auditor's office was refused. It is said, but not confirmed, that one bank in a small town holds more than $20,000 of the paper of the company.
AWAITS NEWS OF CARRANZA VICTORY
WASHINGTON, April 9. State department officials waited today for confirmation of the report from Carranza at Vera Cruz that General Obergon had crushed the army personally led by General Villa in a battle at Guanajuato. No information of the battle thus far has come from any but Carranza sources. The coming visit of former President Huerta is the source of much speculation.
CLUB COMMITTEE AIDS KNOLLENBERG
To arrange for hauling away trash and for cleaning the city streets and alleys in conjunction with the yard cleaning movement, the Commercial club committee in charge met this afternoon with Street Commissioner Knollenberg. Members of the committee expected to fix a date for yard cleaning week. Arrangements will be made to have city wagons scheduled to certain parts of the city during the week to clean up trash in alleys as the residents fnish their yard cleaning.
Those who disobey lawB and are not clever enough to "get by" with it, beware the arm of the city policeman after Saturday. Monday Mayor Robbins will be empowered to sentence men to the state penal farm. . This will be a novel experience for police judges, but a sentence to the penal farm means sixty days or more for the prisoners. Many points of contention have arisen since the opening of the farm is near at hand. One is relative to the sentencing of persons found guilty of
VISIT INDIANAPOLIS ON CITY BUSINESS
Mayor Robbins and Superintendent Kleinknecht of the municipal plant went to Indianapolis this ' afternoon but the mayor refused to state what their mission in that city was. "We are going on business for the city. That is all I can say at this time," the mayor stated. "Is this business in any way connected with the electric rate case now pending before the state utilities commission?" he was asked. "Yes, indirectly so," he replied-
SOCIETY EXPECTS NEWS OF DR. COFER
No word has been received from Dr. Cofer, of Washington, who was scheduled to arrive tomorrow for a week's work on the city's health conditions, and Domestic Science association members are uncertain as to what arrangements to make for the govern ment physician. If he does not ar rive tomorrow a message stating the reasons for his delay is expected.
intoxication. Under the state laws, the maximum sentence for third time offenders is thirty days and $100 fine. With costs, this equals a sentence of 140 days unless the offender can pay the fine. Whether days added for unpaid fines can be counted as part of a sentence and enable the police judges to send this class of offenders to the penal farm is not known. George E. Seidel, one of the farm trustees, said today he does not know what interpretation will be placed on this. Unless days added for unpaid
fines can be counted In with the regular jail sentence, it will be Impossible to send persona guilty of intoxication to the new state Institution. Cheap for County.' Another point ' which has arisen against offenders is the fact that it will be cheaper for the counties to have judges sentence prisoners for sixty days at the penal farm than for thirty days in the county Jail. . L It is estimated that the expense of sending a prisoner from Wayne county to the penal farm with a guard and returning the prisoner her at the expiration of his sentence will be under $10. A thirty day sentence for a prisoner costs the county $12.50 the sheriff receiving forty cents a day for board the prisoner and two "in and out" fees of twenty-five cents. By sentenc
ing the prisoner to the penal farm for sixty days, $2.50 or more Is saved. County Saves $140. . The saving to Wayne county on sixty day prisoners sent to the penal farm will be $14.60. Mr. Seldel said that be sees no danger of overcrowding' the penal farm. No prisoners sentenced before Monday will be received. The capacity of the farm is now 200 or more and is being rapidly Increased. By fall the capacity will be from 600 to 800 which is expected to Include most of the prisoners, from all counties who normally receive terms of sentence from sixty days to one year.

Dandruff Surely Destroys The Hair
Scotland will have at Dunfermline a technical college devoted chiefly to linen weaving.
PALLADIUM WANT ADS. PAY.
Girls if you want plenty of thick, beautiful, glossy, silky hair, do by all means get rid of dandruff, for it will starve your hair and ruin it if you don't. It doesn't do much good to try to brush or wash it out. The only sure way to get rid of dandruff Is to dissolve it, then you destroy it entirely. To do this, ket about four ounces of ordinary liquid arvon; apply it at
night when retiring; use enough to
moisten the scalp and rub it in gently with the finger tips.
By morning, most if not all, of your dandruff will be gone, and three or four more applications will completely dissolve and entirely destroy every single sign and trace of it. You will find, too, that all itching and digging of the scalp will stop, and your hair will look and feel a hundred times better. You can get liquid arvon at any drug store. It is inexpensive and four ounces is all you will need, no matter how much dandruff you have. This simple remedy never tails. AdV.
Smart Originality of Design Expresses Parisian Influence in these Wooltex Tailored Coats and Suits
THE handsome suit shown in the picture ! a Wooltex adaptation of a recently imported Doucet model and it is representative of many of the charming garments that we are now showing Wooltex designs always get their first inspiration In Paris. Even under the handicap of the great war in Europe, Madame Savarie, director of the Wooltex fashion bureau in Paris, paid her accustomed visit to the great Parisian designers with whom she has been familiar for so many years. The suit illustrated has a 27-inch jacket with the new flare below a partial belt on each side of the jacket, where there is a slash, the open edges of which are trimmed with buttons and buttonholes. The belt confining the jacket gives the new outline, suggesting a slightly smaller waist-line. There are clever coin pockets in the belt on each side; officer's military collar, overlaid with detachable white pique collar that gives a charming spring-like effect. The skirt has a fashionable yoke with narrow front panel, finished with nine buttons and worked buttonholes at the top in front where the skirt closes. There is a slight fullness over the hips below a smoothfitting yoke. Price of this suit, $25.00. Many other styles in Wooltex suits at $25.00, $30.00 and $35.00. Wooltex coats, $16.50, $20.00 and $25.00,
