FIRST A. S. M. TIES COLONIAL BOWLERS

The first game of a series for the best three out of five games to determine the city championship in polo will be played tonight, with the challenging five, the Greeks, opposing the A. S. M. This series was to have started Monday night, but was postponed until tonight. Fans are looking forward to this series as the best bit of playing of the entire season, owing to the apparent equality of the two teams and the rivalry existing between them. It is the intention of each quintet to get the jump on its opponent by bagging the first game. Both fives have strengthened for the title series, Ernest Abel of the Smokes being on the defense as extra for the Seeders, while Oesting of the same team will be used at Center by the Greeks. Seats have been going like wildfire all day. Each team will carry seven men throughout the series and as the agreement is down in black and white there will be no chance of changing the line-ups. The curtain raiser will bring together for the second time the demon Keystones and the rugged Kandyankles. These two tried conclusions last week and the former team got away with the game by a 3-to-l score.

ULRIGH'S ANSWER. Believing that a aeries of five polo games between the Greeks and the A. S. M. will give the fans good polo and promote the Interests of the game in Richmond; and despite the fact that the A. S. M. team has defeated the Greek team a majority of the games played, a feeling exists here that an opportunity to defeat them again is to be taken advantage of. Therefore, in behalf of the A. S. M. polo team, I accept the challenge of Mr. Newman, In behalf of the Greek team, provided a suitable agreement Is drawn up and signed by him, the management of the Coliseum and J. E. ULRICH. Manager A. S. M. Team.

Coach Robert Nohr of the high school athletic teams said today that inter-group baseball work would be taken up at the high school next week. The call has been made for Tuesday afternoon. Until the weather warms up the teams will practice in the high school gym and play indoor baseball. With this preliminary work, Coach Nohr expects to get the boys in good shape to go on the diamond. The inter-group league will include ten teams which will be as evenly matched as possible. A regular schedule of games will be played during the spring. From these group teams, Mr. Nohr expects to develop a strong team to represent the school. LYBOULT TO DIRECT TENNIS TOURNAMENT Preliminary plans for taking up outdoor athletic work of Garfield school were announced today by Physical Instructor Lymon Lyboult. The organization of the Garfield Baseball league will be completed in a short time, and a schedule of games will be arranged. Mr. Lyboult also announced plans for a tennis tournament, which will be open to all Garfield students, and an inter-class track meet. He said the playgrounds probably would be opened in two or three weeks, and that baseball candidates would be given a tryout as soon as the diamond is in condition to use.

KENfJEY USES FLAGS ON RICHMOND FLOAT Manager of Local Team En

ters Parade of K. I. O. at Cincinnati.

"Send us some pennants of Richmond to decorate our float in the big baseball parade of the K. I. O., which is to be held next Monday night,'wrote Dick Kenney in a letter to one of the oficials of the Richmond Baseball club today. Dick has procured an auto to represent Richmond, a member of the K. I. O. asociation, in the parade, which is expected to be the biggest ever staged by an semi-pro organization. The Cincinnati police force wllUturn out in a body to take part in the monster event, and the mayor , will also honor the association by his presence. , Dick received Dave Knisely's contract Tuesday night, and -f he gets Novy to sign, Dave will be pluyed in right field. This gives the club an excellent catcher in case Novy decides to stay out, and an A-1 outfielder if he comes in, as Knisely is a strong hitter, thrower fend a hard, conscientious player, being in the game all the time.

RITCHIE IN BATTLE TO REGAIN HONORS

BY LEASED WIRE NEW YORK, March 11. Willie Ritchie's only hope of winning back the lightweight championship will be with a K. O. The wiseacres in the pugilistic game, however, do not believe that the former champion can send over the haymaker, especially when pitted against such a clever opponent as Freddie Walsh. Each lad is in fine condition for the ten-round bout tonight in Madison Square Garden. Welsh is a slight fa vorite in the betting. His cleverness

will more than offset the punching

ability of his opponent, according to "those in the know."

SUPER-SWEEPSTAKE FOR INDIANAPOLIS

INDIANAPOLIS, March 11. A -super-sweepstakes, the culmination of all 500-mile races to date, is now being contemplated by the Indianapolis motor speedway management, the length of; the contest to be a thousand miles, and the purse $100,000. The originator of the plan is A. C. Newby, president of the National Motor 'Vehicle company, and a director of the speedway, whose idea it is to stage a contest such as never has been seen before. The race is to be invitational, entry being limited to makes of cars having won previous 500-mile contests. To date four such makes are eligible Marmon, Delage, National and Peugeot, with possibly a fifth after the next contest has been run. Entering probably five cars each, this would make a field of twenty-five machines,
