QUAKER STOCK SOARS BEFORE ROSE BATTLE

Victory Over Butler Gives Earlham Apparent Edge on Engineers' Five. Following the overwhelming victory over Butler last evening, Earlham is confident she will be able to take the hus,ky Rose Poly team into camp next Friday night at the Coliseum. Logan will be in the game and the machine made up of Logan, Morrish and Meeks is expected to make things pretty lively. The defense of the Engineers is understood to be the strong feature of their playing and Coach Whiteside will attempt to develop a scoring machine that will be able to overcome it. The game will be played in connection with the two games of the district high school tournament and is expected to be witnessed by a record breaking crowd. The dope following the Butler game last night would indicate that Earlham has the edge on the Engineers. Rose defeated Butler two weeks ago but the score was not as one sided as that against the Christians last night. They have been playing a strong game all season, however, and can always be counted on for a good fight. It is the last game in the season for Earlham and for that reason the team is particularly anxious to end the season in victory. MUNCIE SQUAD HOPES TO WIN FROM SEEDERS Polo Tonight. The fierce rushing of Taggart and Miller i3 bound to be thrilling, and with Fritz and Kampe staging the "all-hands-on-the-floor" stunt, a great game is looked forward to by the thousands of followers of the two teams. This game will begin at 7:30 o'clock. A good an interesting game should result when the Seeders and Muncie hook up in the big game of the evening, with the first named team as the probable winners. Muncie has come and gone so many times this season without taking home a win that their followers have about given up all hope of them every doing the trick for this season at least. The Seeders are figuring on evening up for their recent defeat at Muncie. POLO LEAGUE PLANS GAME FOR CHARITY Teams May Devote Entire Proceeds to Aid Poor Lewis May Come. The Richmond Polo league last night decided to stage the five-game series between the Greeks and Seeders, with the Smoke House and Quigleys furnishing the curtain raisers. Clem Gaar, representing the Coliseum management, said the series would be a good thing for the game as well as for the patrons. The Coliseum has offered the free use of the building for some night for a benefit game, a certain per cent going to the players and the rest to charity. The board of directors of the league was in favor of offering the players' services in a charity game, but from the discussion entered into by them they believed that a better plan would be to play one night, the entire proceeds going to the players, while later the players and Coliseum would give the proceeds to charity. It was learned today that Ted Lewis was in favor of bringing his team from Indianapolis, accepting the terms offered his team last week. If this game is scheduled but one game will be played between the Seeders and Greeks the coming week. HOLLANDSBURG LOSES HOLLANSBURG, O., March 4. The high school basketball team was fast enough to score only eleven points against the New Madison team Tuesday night and went down in defeat by a 39-11 score.

DOPE AROUSES FIGHTING SPIRIT IN LOCAL TEAM High Determines to Upset Hated Dope and Come Out on Top Despite Previous Defeats. Repeated predictions of sport writers over the district that Richmond high school would not place first in the district elimination basketball tourney Friday and Saturday has aroused the ire of Coach Nohr's five. At first they protested mildly against the claims of New Castle and Rushville. When dopesters relegated them to second place, they became furious. Their rage has been boiling until on the eve of the tournament Porter's boys are like so many tigers held In leach. "Do or die" is weak and puerile as an expression of the spirit of determination which has gripped the will power of every player. Just to show what they could do, the boys turned on the Earlham Freshmen one night this week and trampled them under foot. Last night they went to the Coliseum and filled the baskets full to running over with shots. With every man trained to a fraction of a second, Nohr is willing to let the results of the games tell the story. It is probable that the regulars will start the scrap with Cadiz, under orders to pile up an unsurmountable lead in the first half. If they succeed, some of the second string men will probably be sent to bear the brunt of the attack in the second half, so the regular warhorses will be fresh for the Rushville duel, the result of which will determine whether Richmond plays in the finals or not. PERFECT PLAY GIVES EARLHAM MERITED GAME

Basket Shooting of Logan, Meeks and Winslow Proves Deadly Volley Against Defense of Butler. Earlham, 50; Butler, 24. Perfect basket shooting gave Earlham a well-deserved victory over the Butler basket ball team last night on the Coliseum floor. Earlham's playing was a decided improvement over the last appearances on the floor. Logan, Winslow and Meeks shot field goals from the center of the floor at almost impossible angles. Twice Winslow threw true from the south railing. Logan was unusually accurate with his shots, missing very few, while Meeks counted six times, some of them being on his one-handed tosses which are making him feared among guards on secondary teams. Quigg who took Winslow's place In the last half, rung a neat goal shortly after entering the game. Quigg's work shows unusual promise as his passing is fast and accurate. Experience in more games will make him a valuable man. Break Up Attack. Lancaster and Morrish had no trouble breaking up- Butler's plays before they reached the danger zone. Morrish was a stonewall all by himself. Although luck was against Butler, as the boys missed a number of shots which looked like points, their own style of play was a big factor in Earlham's favor. The entire team played the center of the floor. When a man was needed under a basket to shoot after the ball had been worked down the floor, he was not there. Defense men were not back near the basket to break up Earlham plays. The first half was slow and interest flagged as Earlham began running up with the score with little resistance from Butler. In the last period the Indianapolis boys made a heroic effort to overcome Earlham's lead. The play became faster, and although the Quakers succeeded In running the score to fifty, they had to work harder for each goal. Lineup and Summary: Earlham. G. FG. FGM.
