Lent Season Begins

Resume of Services in Richmond Churches Last Evening.

The season of Lent was opened with special services in the Catholic and Lutheran churches of the city yesterday. Holy Communion was observed by the Catholic churches and at St. Paul's Episcopal church in the morning, and special services were held In all the churches in the evening. Two addresses were given by the Rev. J. S. Ughtbourn at St. Paul's Episcopal church. In the morning he spoke on the determination of the prodigal son when he said, "I will arise." 'That determination should be ours," said the Rev. Mr. Lightbourn. "It led to no half-way measures for he went right straight to the ones he had offended, asking forgiveness and secured an absolute reconciliation." In the evening the Rev. Mr. Lightbourne urged his hearers to follow the practice of always returning evil with good, and of the necessity of taking care that while they were removing sin care be taken to put something good in its place or the sin would return again. The Rev. Mr. Lightbourne said the attendance at the Lenten services was the best that it had been since his coming to Richmond. Catholic Services. CLUB HOLDS SECOND OF ANNUAL DINNERS

HAGERSTOWN, Ind., Feb. 18 The second annual banquet of the Hagerstown Commercial club was given Tuesday night at the I. O. O. F. hall. The rBenu was as follows: Veal loaf, escalloped oysters, baked beans, pickles, celery, Parker House rolls, ice cream, cake, coffee and cigars. Following the banquet Mr. Williams of Huntington, state secrery of Federation of Commercial clis, addressed the members and several citizens who were guests. The meeting was very enjoyable and the address of Mr. Williams excellent.

vided by Bishop Silas of Indianapolis for the diocese of Indianapolis were explained. The members were asked to take only one meal a day with the exception of Sunday except in cases where a special dispensation has been granted. Special music was furnished at the evening service at the First English Lutheran church by a quartet composed of Oliver Nusbaum, Lee B. Nusbaum, Mrs. F. W. Kreuger and Miss Corinne Nusbaum. Rev. E. G. Howard delivered a sermon on "Revivals False and True." At St. Paul's Lutheran church Rev. Conrad Huber spoke on repentance. The acknowledgment and the confession of sin together with its sorrow and hatred were touched on in his sermon. He said the repentance was made possible by a complete faith in Jesus Christ and a diligent effort to uplift the life. St. John's Service. At St. John's Lutheran church, the Rev. A. J. Feeger spoke on the vicarious sacrifice of Christ for the redemption of sin. The Gethsemena incident of the passion story, as recorded by St. Matthew served as text for the discourse, which showed that it was necessary for Christ to suffer and die in order that sin might be atoned and the race saved. The redemptive work of Christ when accepted in faith feafves the soul, the pastor said. A special collection for home mission work was taken at this service.

EAGLES INITIATE

A class of three new members were initiated into Wayne Aerie, No. 666, of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, at the lodge rooms on South Seventh street last night. A large crowd was present to watch the work and refreshments were served after the initiation.

About Bronchitis. When a cold extends to the bronchial tubes it is called bronchitis. For this disease Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is excellent. Mrs. Will Harris, Zanesville, Ohio, says of it, "Lasv. Winter I was bothered for several weeks with bronchitis. I also had a

dreadful dry hacking cough that clung i

to me so persistently that I became alarmed. Finally I had the good fortune to learn of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. It relieved the irritation of my throat and two bottles of it cured me." Obtainable everywhere. Adv.

'"'Ladies' House or Home Dress; in raised waistline, and with sleeve in either of two lengths. As here shown dotted percale was used, with pipings in blue for a" finish. The design would be nice . in gray and white striped seersucker, or in gingham in any of the pretty checks or plaids, likewise in chambray, poplin, or linen. White linen seems so serviceable and neat for morning dresses, relieved by a little touch of colored trimming. For flannellette or cashmere, crepe or voile this design' is also appropriate. It is made with sleeves and back in one; the back forming a yoke over the fronts. The simple coat closing made on a line with the closing of the skirt, is a practical and good feature of this style. The sleeve is stylish in wrist finish and comfortable and equally popular in short length. The pattern is cut in 6 sizes: 34, 36, 38, 40, 42 and 44 inches bust measure. It requires 6 yards of 44-inch material for a 36-inch size. The skirt measures 2 yards at its lower edge. A pattern of this illustration mailed to any address on receipt of 10c in silver or stamps. Address your letter to Richmond Palladium Pattern Department, Richmond, Indiana.
