IN LONG OVERTIME DUAL SMOKES FLAY SEEDERS , V . Wonderful Offense and Defense Proves Superiority After Extra Twenty-five Minute Period -Quigleys Defeat Greeks
POLO STANDING. Won. Lost. Pet. A S. M. 9 2 .818 Greeks . 6 6 .655 Smokes 6 6 .455 Quiajleya 2 9 .182 Scores Last Night. Quileys, 5; Greeks, 3. Smokes, 3; A. S. M., 2. It was a great night for the Smokes and Quigleys laat night when rising up In their wrath they snatched victory from the Greeks and Seeders, the Quigleys getting the long end of a 5 to 3 count and the Smokes coming to the front with a 3 to 2 score. For features the Smoke-Seeder game capped the climax. They played the longest overtime game on record, the overtime period going twenty-five minutes before the boys were given a rest. After the hook-off in the center of the floor, Clark got clear with the ball, passed Evans and, with Williams blocking his progress, pushed the pill between his legs to waiting Date Geyer, who shoved It behind O'Metz. The play brought the fans to their feet, th manager of the Smokes becoming so excited that he went clear through one of the Coliseum's perfectly good seats. Fans Enjoy Sport. Better spirit was shown by the contestants in the games, there being a decided let-up in the number of cuts .and bruiees and the fans enjoyed the "(sport more because of this fact than they have in previous encounters. The Quigleys lined up minus the iervices of Cam Jones, who was unable to get to the Coliseum in time to play. The green clad boys were a little dubious of their chances because of Sam's absence, but it can be said right here that they went out and played the game as it should be played and with their continual pegging away and taking advantage of every opportunity, they put the game on ice, making the first time this season that they have put one over on the Greeks. The latter team, on the other hand, while sverking hard enough, for some reason cv other could not get together. Be diming the first period it took 8:20 conds before either team could Score, the Greeks getting one behind Sr.aveley after a short scrimmage in front of his goal. Reid tied this up j'.mt 17 seconds later, when he caught be ball on a rebound and got one past Hank via the corner route. He put his team one to the good Just before OFFICIAL POLO SCORES A. S. M. VS. (the period ended on a hook shot. Marine made the score 3 to 1 after 12:06 seconds bad been played in the second period. Bulla catching one on the nose made the count S to 2, whaling one past Snaveley. The Quigleys won out In the third period, hanging two in the netting while the Greeks could get only one. BADEL GEYER STARS. Badel Geyer was right when he made the statement that he would beat the Seeders or know the reason why. Badel put up his best game of the season in the tussle and he surely needed to be in the best form, as he had some mightly difficult chances to Btop. He did It, however, in the most approved fashion, and aided by the sensational work of his defense, Abel and Oesting, took the first game from the Seeders. Clark and Geyer, too, had a big night, having the Seeders' defense in hot water practically all through the game, giving O'Metz cause to worry about his average. Harry tended as good a game as any one could possibly have tended, but he had no chance of getting the ones that did get past him. Working together like world beaters the Smokes' defense would time after time break up the Seeders' plays and with the ball in their possession take it right down to their forwards, getting back in time to 6top any on-rush attempted by their opponents, and starting down the floor again, repeating the stunt with a regularity that had all the fans wondering where they could find two defense men that would work any better together" than Dutch and Ernie. Battle Tide Turns. The Seeders started off like winners Qulgley scoring in the first period and Evans in the second, w hile the Smokes were getting nothing. In the third period, however, the tide of battle changed, Clark getting the ball high In the air on a rebound from the wall and shot it straight and true behind O'Metz for the Smokes' first score. Abel made the tieing count when in a scrimmage in front of the Seeders' : cage he got clear and pitcnea tne pin ' behind 'O'Metz. And then came the overtime. I With both teams weary from their ! hard game they went at each other I with a dogged-like perseverance and I for twenty-five long minutes wabbled ! and slugged away but getting no place with it. A snort rest was granted them and it took 55 seconds for little Date Geyer to win the game. GUIDE TO EVENTS IN SPORT WORLD FRIDAY. Bowling. I. H. C. vs. Models. Braves vs. Models. Basketball.
