ROUGHING RUINS DAYTON BATTLE GAINED BY "Y"
When Certain of Defeat G3rm Team Argues with Officials and Use Repeated Fouling Tactics. Richmond, 23; Dayton Gym, 15. They were rag-chewera. This and more might be Bald of the Dayton Gyms, who assayed to play basket ball at the Y. M. C. A. Saturday nipht. Swing by tho score board that defeat was certain, the visitors, after the first half, lost their temper, tried to intimidate the referee, and took numerous unprovoked blows at Coach Roach's men with doubled fists. When caught and fouled for their unsportsmanlike play they became anKry and threatened the officials. J. O'Connell and Gregor, who went in toward the end of the game, made no attempt to conceal their vicious jabs at their opponents. In many instances Roach's men were forced to strike back in self-defense. Play Starts Fast. The play started in whirlwind fashion, both teams playing fast, air-tight ball. Before either team had made a field pool, Spot Schcpmaa had con- . verted two fcul3 into points and TJnger had looped one for the Gyms. The superior training and team work of Roach's men told before the end of the half .which ended with the score cf 12 to 2 in favor of the "V". During this period the gifardins of Captain Sehepman and Parker was sensational in the extreme, as they allowed linger to make only two field goals. Although doirged by his man, Laning showed his cleverness by r'nging three field goals. Others which should have been f.',oals, missed the hoop by small margins. Outplayed, and with the score against them them, the Gyms started playing dirty at the beginning of the aeeond half, and what otherwise would have been an interesting same for the spectators was spoiled. O'Connell started the battle when he protested because the referee called a foul on him for pushing Laning into the wall. After that play basketball ceased. Fans who like clean sport have expressed the hope that no more games will be scheduled with the Gyms. Summary: Richmond. G. F.G. M. Dope Fiend's Smoke Clouds Coach Roach was justified in Ms action of removing a player from the Dayton Gym-Y. M. C. A. game Saturday for roughness, and it is only a pity that the management of the visitors should allow such dirty tactics as were employed by his men. Vordenburg and Schlemker, pitcher and second sacker, respectively, for the local baseball team last summer, have been reported as being signed by the Rushville manager for the coming season. ordy got away with most of his games, but how he did it in several instances always has been a mystery to most of the fans. If Chick Long should come to terms with Kenney, we should worry about Vordy. Luke Snyder, it might be said, is also the peer of Schlemker. Plans are on foot to bring the Indianapolis polo team back again, with the Seeders as their opponents. How'11 you bet? "How do you account for it?" asked a skeptic. "Yv'ell, women are filled with nervous energy the same as men. Men get an outlet for it through one form of athlct'cs or another.
