mercial club, a committee from the Travelers Protective association, a

committee of rural mall carrier out of

the Richmond ' post office and many other individuals. Send Out Petitions

The following petitions are addressed to the Hon. Walter McConaha, joint

senator of Wayne and Union counties:

"The undersigned residents having had the opportunity to - observe the

benefits of the maintenance of high

ways under the supervision of the county " highway superintendent, respectfully address you in request that you use your best endeavors to the

end that the present highway law shall

not be amended in such way as shall either diminish the duties of such

highway superintendent or in such

way as shall reduce the efficiency of

such plan and system." Wayne Stands Alone. That Wayne county good roads advocates are practically alone in the state in fighting the repeal of the law and a return to the old system is said to be the case as other counties complain of needless expense without better results. If the sentiment is overwhelmingly against the action of the Wayne county constituents, it is not Improbable that a special bill will be Introduced for Wayne county. The committee will show that the three county commissioners under the old system in 1913 drew a total of $989 while the highway superintendent received $1,040, for double the work. Mr. Seidel stated that the institution would save all the counties $100,000 per year by lessening the number of prisoners in county Jails.-
