MANAGERS TALK TRADE BUT FAIL TO CHANGE MEN President Byers Picks Quigley, Allison, Fry, Evans, Abel and O'Metz to Enter Muncie Game. "Some doings" were registered at the meeting of the Rlcnmond Polo league last night at George Brehm'a store. Trade talk was in the air, each and every team having something to say on this matter, but when it came to actual transfers there was nothing doing. One of the Interesting features of the meeting was a letter written to the league by M. C. Henley, president of the Coliseum company. Mr. Henley's letter Bhowed that he has the interests of the league at heart and wants to see it prosper. He gave special emphasis to "clean polo," and suggested that all players try to play as clean a game as was possible. The butchering that was done last Thursday night should be stopped, quoth Mr. Henley, and the referee should see that it is stopped and should enforce the playing rules to the limit. He also suggested the ruling that the ten-inch whang which is allowed on sticks should be enforced. Six dates with- the Muncie aggregation have been arranged, the first game to be played at that place Friday night. An all-star aggregation has been picked, by President Byers to represent Richmond. Those making the trip will be I Qulgley, Fry and Allison, rushes; Evans, center; Abel, halfback, and O'Metz, goal. The same line-up will be used against Muncie in the return game, which is next Monday night at the Coliseum. Since playing the locals the last time the Magic City team has. been cutting a wide swath with other teams in the state decisively beating the Marion five, and last night taking Anderson by the score of 4 to 3. Reserved seats for Polo at Coliseum. Phone 1569. 193t

A battle royal is expected tomorrow night when the Quigleys and Greeks

hook up in the first game of the evening. The Pharmacists having defeated

the Smokes last week are the least bit chesty and are Intending to keep up the good work using the Greeks as the second stepping stone. The Greeks are also feeling pretty good over being the first local team to conquer the

A. S. M. and are counting on using the Quigleys to increase their standing in

the percentage column.

The second battle of the evening will be between the Seeders and

Smokes. With Oesting back in the

game, the latter team is sure to give the opponents a stiff argument. With

the acquisition of Shallenberger, the

Smokes have one of the speediest rushers in the league and the battle between . him and Qtiigley, getting to

the spot first will be interesting.

Kid Haughton last night played with the Anderson five in the battle with Muncie. The Kid played a good, beady game, and showed that he is not through with the old game by any

means.

"Speed up the game" is now the

motto of the local league, and with this

in- mind fans are .expecting to see even faster polo than they have been

witnessing.

Chick Harrison tried out last night

with the Smokes and gave a good account of himself. Whether he will be used tomorrow night or not is a ques

tion. With Oesting back in the gam 3 tomorrow night, for the first time in three weeks, the Smokes will be well

fortified with defense men.

Three dates are pending with the In

dianapolis team, which put up the best

brand of polo shown on the local floor

this season a short time ago. .

Thursday night's schedule calls for

the Greeks and Quigleys, the first game, while the smokes and Seeders

hook up in the last afair.

ROACH PLANS MEET FOR CITY ATHLETES

A city athletic, track and field meet is the latest bee buzzing in the ear of Physical Director Roach of the Y M. C. A., the afair to take place at the public play grounds. The talent ?s here sayeth Roach, so why not develop it and put Richmond on the track athletic map? Roach's plan is to offer prizes for each event which if not of monetary

value would nevertheless make the

long-lagging enthusiasm brace up. About thirty sturdy athletics as the

"Y" have signified their intention of

entering the state telegraphis meet which is to be held January 25 to 28. "Do as good as the "bowling team did, and they will get a goot start to future big doings," says Roach.

A PAtt PLAYS. TRAPBO FOR A tSVT 50 MOCK

Recent mention of queer deals and trades in baseball reminds Enoch Somers, a veteran bush league manager, of some of the capricious trades he has made in his day. He tells of one time when in desperate need of a chew he traded an outfielder for a pack of Mail Pouch. And later when he found the team they were to play was without a complete infield he traded his star third baseman for a bat bag. Both of which deals, protests Somers. were on the level and bona fide.

Mrs. Charles Wieland, mother of the six children whose custody will cause a juvenile court fight Saturday, said today through her attorney Paul A. Becket that her husband has deserted her and she would try to assemble her family again without his support. She said her parents would contribute towards her support.
