LUTHERANS GIVE REV. FEEGER CAR ON ANNIVERSARY
'Twenty years of service as pastor of St. John's Lutheran church by the Rev. A. J. Feeger was the occasion for a celebration prepared in his honor by members of the congregation yesterday. The anniversary observance was a surprise to the pastor. His congregation presented him with a Ford automobile. After the Sunday school service was concluded yesterday , morning, Fred Hackman and August Paust. members of the vestry, waited upon the pastor and informed him that he need not preach, as the congregation had arranged a service commemorative of the twenty years he bad served as head of the church. Success Means Blessing. Escorted by the vestry, the Rev. Mr. Feeger was conducted to a place of honor before the altar. The Rev. Henry Wickemeyer, of Michigan City, for seventeen years pastor of St John's prior to the coming of the present incumbent, delivered the morning address, Jbased on Psalm 103, while Superintendent Specht of the Wernle Home conducted the liturgical service. The Rev. Mr. Wickemeyer maintained that all success in a pastorate was the blessing of God, and that the pastor was only a human agency through which God carried out his plans. He reviewed the trials and pleasures incident upon work in the ministry, and indicated that the real purpose of the ministry was the salvation of souls. At the evening service, the sermon was delivered by the Rev. P. Schmidt of Middletown, Ohio. Taking Isaiah 49:6 a bis text, the pastor spoke on the seriousness of the work of the church and of the ministry. The speaker maintained that the ministry was the highest calling on earth because it had to do with the salvation of souls. He believed the introduction in the pulpit of topics alien to this work was derogatory of the high calling of the ministry. .Music at the celebration was under the direction of Prof. Zimmerman.
