Anticipating the annual celebration of Jackson day, Preble county Democrats have become busy arranging preliminary details) Upon tbis occasion members of the party are present from every section of the county In a grand, social, bettogether meeting. The date, however, will not be announced until speakers have been secured. These are the committees selected to make arrangements: Speakers, C. P. Brooke, Hugh R. Gilmore and E. H. Trvln; arrangements, Sheriff Wertz, Dr. W. H. Bucke. Judge V. V. Brumbaugh, Charles A. Hoffman and Earle ('. Campbell; banquet, William Hambidge, V. E. Reel and G. E. Rensman. CLOSE TO FREEZING
On only two days did the temperature rise above freezing point last week. On Sunday and Monday the mercury rose to 34 degrees, the maximum temperature for the week. The minimum was reached on Saturday, when the thermometer registered 9 degrees below zero, the second lowest temperature of the season. Cloudy weather prevailed during most of the week. They have fled across the border by the hundreds to escape the many maurauding bands that are now carrying on a guerilla-like war in Northern Mexico.

Willard Ten Eyck and Mrs. Jennie Summers received word of the death of their oldest brother, Thomas Ten Eyck, at the home of his daughter at Nemaha, Neb., Dec. 22. The funeral took place on Thursday. Thomas Ten Eyck was the son of John and Louisa Ten Eyck, and was born at Milton, April 6, 1837. He with his brother Willard Ten Eyck, and John Moore, Joined the Company D, Ind. Zouaves in 1861 and remained in the Union service until the close of the war. After returning to Milton at the close of the war, Thomas Ten Eyck engaged in bridge building for several years after which he went to East St. Louis, where he worked at the carpenter's trade until about three years ago. The luncheon was served by Mrs. John Ingerman and consisted of a Christmas menu. The crowd was drawn from Milton, neighboring cities and conutry.
