Post Office Handles 45,000 Pieces in Single DayMails Increase.

Christmas mall handled by the post office yesterday and today exceeded in quantity the mail of last year, according to Superintendent of Mails I fandley. Yesterday 45,000 pieces of first class mail were handled and half as many pieces of parcel post matter. The business until the late trains tonight is expected to be heavier. It is learned from an authoratative source that Field Marshal Sir John French, commander of the British expeditionary force in France and Belgium, and General Joseph Joffre, commander-in-chief of the French army, are gathering their forces and are moving troops and artillery for two terrific blows, which will be administered against the Germans at both ends of the SOO-mlle battle front, probably in January. ALLISON TO SPEAK AT MEN'S MEETING Dayton Man Returns to Address Y. M. C. A. Services at Theatre.

FIRST METHODISTS ENTERTAIN SANTA

The Sunday school of the First Methodist Kpiscopal church, will have its Christmas entertainment this evening at 7:30 o'clock in the auditorium of the church. A large Christmas tree has been set up in the church and very beautifully decorated lor the occasion, it will be electric lighted and afford old Santa Calus a fine opportunity to display the contents of his pack. A Christmas gift la ready for every member of the school and abundant provision has been made for all. A delightful program, the "Christmas Cantata" has been prepared and will be rendered for the entertainment of all of whatever age and size.

PURTELLE TO START CONSTRUCTION WORK

Construction work on the HamiltonConnersville traction line will begin within two weeks, according to John Fitzgibbons, one of the Purtelle party. Mr. Fitzgibbons returned home from Hamilton today with Mr. Purtelle, who went to Chicago for the holidays. The local man said the contract was sublet by Engineer Clawson, also of the Purtelle party to the J. W. Newman and Sons company, two weeks ago and the contractors are ready to start work on five days notice.

Cele, who has been stopping at the St. Paul hotel, was arrested today as he stepped from an automobile in front of the hotel and was taken to police headquarters.
