WHEAT OPENS STRONG ON CHICAGO MARKET Fighting in North Sea Between Germans and English Affects Trading. BY LEASED WIRE. CHICAGO, Deo. 10. Wheat was Stronger and to cent higher at the opening with the smaller northwestern receipts and the belief that primary market receipts are to run smaller, as the leading hull factors. Below zero temperatures and lack of snow in Kanpas and the west generally were looked on as bullish. Tlverpool placed a bullish construction on the American government report of yesterday and tl".3 English markets were strong to Is higher. An Irregular market was predicted on account of the fighting between German and British fleets In the JCorth sea. The fighting was a bear force, as. If the Germans won, grains consigned to England would be liable to seizure, and if England won an early end of the war was indicated. Corn was easy.' Oats were steady in the early trading. ELWOOD That the great European war now raging has not stamped out the Christmas spirit of the soldiers at the front is shown in a package just, received by little Clara Madchen of this city from an uncle who Is a soldier in the German army. The package is not to be opened until Christmas. A letter which accompanied it explained that the gift was mailed early before the soldier was expecting to be sent to the front at any time and that he might be killed before he could start the Christmas present on its long journey.
