Mrs. Frederick J. Carr -was hostess yesterday afternoon tor a meeting of the Tuesday auction-bridge club at her home In Westcott Place. The game was played at several tables. Favors went to Mesdamea Albert D. Oayle, Ray K. Shlveley, and Jeannette Bland. After the game the hostess served a delicious luncheon. Mrs. James A. Carr was a guest. The next meeting will not be held until after the holidays. Mr. Charles E. Tebbetts and Miss Edith Tebbetts have gone to Philadelphia and within a few days will be joined by Mrs. Tebbetts. They will spend the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Tebbetts, Jr. Mrs. F. C. Powers was hostess Tuesday, afternoon for a meeting of the Criterion club at her home on North Eighteenth street. Responses to roll call were receipts for Christmas cooking. "The Other Wise Man." was the subject for a reading presented by Mrs. Foster. After the program a social hour followed and refreshments were served. The house was prettily decorated with the Christmas decorations. A beautifully decorated Christinas treet added to the attractiveness of the embellishments. The hostess for the next meeting will be announced later. A pretty child's party was given Monday afternoon by Mrs. George Consello at her home, 619 North Nineteenth street, in honor of her little daughter Miss Lillian's third birthday anniversary. The hours were from 2 until 5 o'clock. The house was decorated in the Christmas colors, red and green and there was a Christmas tree which delighted the little ones. At 4:30 o'clock the guests were invited to the dining room where an elaborate luncheon in several courses was served. Covers were laid for Lillian Miller. Maxine Herzler, Lillian Consello. In his annual report, Major-General Wotherspoon, the new chief of staff of the United States army, says that the present or proposed garrisons on the Panama canal are not large enough to hold it against an attack, even long enough to permit reinforcements to be sent from the United States. He also says that Hawaii and the Philippines are not adequately garrisoned.
Ten dollars was sent to a home at Council Bluffs, Iowa. At another meeting of the union held some weeks ago ten dollars was given to the Belgium sufferers.
