NATIONAL LEADERS CONSIDER MENACE
OF FED
INVASION
BY FRANK Q. MENKE. ! NKW YORK. Dec. 8 The most important meeting of the National League ever held will take place tonight when it will be decided whether it is to be peace or war between organized baseball and the Federal league. In fact, this is the first time that the magnates have ever officially taken notice or the menace of the Federal League. The meeting of the National commission composed of President John K. Tener, of the National League. President Ban Johnson of the American League and Garry Hermann of Cincinnati, will be held at the Waldorf Astoria hotel beginning at 7:30 o'clock. The entire situation will be canvassed tonight. If it is decided to throw the head gear of organized baseball into the ring the question of raising a war chest will be taken up at once, once. Talk of War Levy. There have been rumors from time to time that a war fund has already been provided, but if this has not been done it may be raised by placing a levy upon each club. The commission is expected to ratify the action taken by the National commission and a special meeting of the league will probably be called for the same purpose. The direction of the league met early this afternoon but only routine business was on the program. It was learned at the Waldorf that "Mike" Mitchell outfielder of the Washington senators has been turned over to the New York Yankees. This deal was partly influenced by sentiment as it. was intended to prevent Mitchell from going back to the minors.

BASEBALL BOOKINGS TO BE MADE SUNDAY BY LOCAL DIRECTORS
Richmond baseball club will be represented at the open meeting of all the leading semi-professional baseball teams of Indiana and Ohio at Cincinnati Sunday at the Sinton hotel at 2:30 o'clock by Harry Patti and Charles Eubanks. The idea of the
meeting is to make satisfactory book
ings among these teams eliminating
the chances of getting weak teams as
their opponents.
This will provide the fans with high
cuass teams the whole summer playing season and will provide them with a faster article of ball. To further help the sport along all officials of the league will be independent of the backing of the various sporting goods houses and ones who will not be prejudiced in their duties. It is not thought likely that the meeting will have any bearing on forming a league of any sort although it is possible that a few of the teams might mention the proposition. The local club after their experience of a few years back on the league proposition are not very strong on this phase of the playing and will probably reject an yovertures on the subject.
