FANS PRIME LUNGS TO SUPPORT FIVES WHENP0L0 OPENS Four Teams of League Await Gong Confident of Ending First Games With Perfect Record.

POLO OPENING.

Flrmt Game. Quigleys vs. Smoke House. 7:45 o'clock. Second Game. A. S. M. vs. Greeks. 9 o'clock. Referee Williams.

All right, fan, let's go. The Richmond Polo league schedule begins tonight. Enthusiasm is already sizzling. Fans are boosting their favorites. The opening game of the season will be the Smoke House Quigley clash at 7:45 o'clock. The Smoke House team is full of the old pep and fire, and is counting on getting a good start at the expense of the Pharmacists. The game should be fast, no matter who wins. The feature game will be the A. S. M.-Greek go. The Seeders have reserved 126 seats and will occupy one whole section, where they promise to make a big noise. The howling mob can see no other way than that its team will start as winners. The Greeks have some rooters, and though not occupying a section will make themselves heard.

GRIFFITH WILL SUE JOHNSON FDR JUMP Washington Manager Claims Option on Star Pitcher's Service for 1915.

BULLETIN. WASHINGTON, Dec. 4. "Walter Johnson must pitch for the Washington club next year for $12,000 or he will not play at all." This was the ultimatum Issued today to the great pitcher by Clark Griffith, manager of the Senators. Griffith Intimated that In addition to holding Johnson on an option the Washington club claims to hold on him for next year, the club may file suit for damages sustained through the loss of the great pitcher.

BY LEASED WIRE. CHICAGO, Dec. 4. The signing of Walter Jqhnson, star slabman of the American league, to a two-year contract with the Chicago Federal league team at Coffeyville, Kan., late Thursday, is by far the most interesting event in baseball since the world's series. "The signing of Washington's greatest pitcher shows that the Federals are very much alive," said President Gilmore today. "Johnson was damaged goods," said Ban Johnson, president of the American league. He was a great pitcher, but Washington had lost confidence in him." In Washington, Clark Griffith, manager of the Senators, was quoted: "I have an option on Johnson's services for 1915. Twenty-five hundred dollars of the $12,00D salary he received last year was in the form of a guarantee fund on this option. I shall certainly go into court and sue him to the end of the earth before I acknowledge his right to sign with the Federals." Johnson himself, in his home in Coffeyville, said: "I have signed a two-year contract with Joe Tinker's team, and expect to pitch as good ball for the Chicago club next summer as I ever pitched for Washington. At the end of the two years I probably will retire and go into business." As to what Johnson's salary with the federals will be, there are as many stories as there are news writers. It was placed today at $20,000 a year with $10,000 bonus; at $20,000 with no bonus, at $17,000 with $6,000 bonus, at $15,00 with $6,00"0 bonus, and at $15,000 with no bonus. No one knows the exact figures, bo take your choice.

REGULARS IN GAME

But one game of basket ball is scheduled to be played in the city this week, that being the Hagerstown-Rich-mond high school game tonight at the Y. M. C. A. gym. Richmond expects to win in easy style, and looks upon the clash as a practice game. Hagerstown is coming with a fair team and claims that a surprise is awaiting the locals. Coach Nohr will probably start Brown and Porter In the forward positions, with Laning at center and Bavis and Johannjfng at guard.

Editor of the Palladium, and L. M. Shaw, Sporting Editor of the Item. In case either shall be unable to attend a game he shall appoint some one to act in his place. It was suggested that the half back should be credited with stops when in the opinion of the scorers he stopped a direct drive for the goal. The propo

sition was not voted on but will be tried out for a few games and if satisfactory will be added to the playing rules. If two men are in the goal circle and one of them shall be hit by a driven ball while there, a goal shall be credited against his team.

Corner Shots BYALLIE.

All managers were present at the last meeting before the opening of the

I Polo league. The meeting was held at the Y. M. C. A. last night and all I reported that their teams were ready

to start. The playing rules to be used for awhile at least are with few exceptions those used by the old Western league. No metallic substance of any kind can be used on a player's polo stick. In case of a player hitting the ball causing it to travel towards an opponents goal and while traveling the gong announces the close of a period or game, if the ball goes into the goal it counts.
