JORDAN AT CHAPEL PRAISESG00D BOY Defines Him as Young: Man With Courage, Honesty and Grit.
"Cowards and Heroes" was the subject of a talk given by Charles V. Jordan, treasurer of the school board, to the high school students thiB mornin? at chapel everclses. Mr. Jordan pointed out the characteristics of the two classes which he said existed every where "When the word 'hero' is mentioned," said Mr. Jordan, "Nearly every one thinks there are two kinds of heroes, war heroes and peace heroes. Every war hero no has a tplendid opportunity to show himself an opportunity which he may never have again. He merely needs to take the first ship from New York and he vill be brought upon the great battlefields of Europe with all their devastation and shocking scenes. "We can rightly call America the peace hero. Although nearly all the j "world is in arms she is maintaining I her dignity. 'In the high school there are two rlasses. which I would name the 'good Iboys' and the 'good fellows.' The good hoy is not 'mamma's boy,' as many think, but the boy with courage, honesty and grit to withstand and forebear the things which he must come in contact with. The 'good fellow,' however, 1s of a different color. He is the fellow who always has the money, and "who is disreputable and dishonest. Sloney makes the good fellow, and if ! he has none he will devise a plan in tome dishonest way to get it." NOTICE TO BIDDERS. "My limbs from kute to ankle were completely covered with eczema for a year. It commenced with several small water pimples, which burst when I scratched them, until they developed into sores, and oozed a yellowis'i fluid. I hated I to go in company, it itched and burned i ea badly. I had no rest at night. I ! tried a good many remedies for eczema, both liquid and salve, but" they did me no good, only made the skin ; more rough and scaly. I learned of ttesinol Ointment and Resinol Soap and tried them and was relieved of the severe itching and burning AT ONCE, and afrrr a month's steady use Mas completely cured." FIREMEN DEMAND NEW PAY BASIS
BY LEASED WIRE. CHICAGO, Dec. 4. Engineers and firemen should be paid on a basis of the weight of the locomotive on its drivers, instead of on a basis of traction power, according to the plea of W. S. Carter, president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, testifying before the Federal arbitration board in the wage controversy involving 800 western railroads. Carter said that the traction power was lightened while the weight on an engine on the drivers remained unchanged. PICTURES CONTRAST DRILLS WJTH FIGHT IN EASTERN FIELDS INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 4 Some one has said that war is the only school in which war can be learned. Americans ot.-this generation have not been to that school, the few of them who saw actual fighting in the Spanish-American troubles being the exceptions. Only survivors among us of our bloody civil war really know what the horrors of conflict are. It follows, therefore, that from the scenes of war and its results in Belgium, as seen in the motion pictures now being shown in Indianapolis, civilian observers may not only gain a vivid impression of the tragic happenings in that ill-fated land, but o more definite ktnowledge of war's method. Drills are Misleading. DAnonca rf wliflt tViv hava roaH ff ' battles in their histories and because of the orderly movements of troops as they have seen them on drill grounds and on parade, It is probable that the average non-military person has cherished a vague notion that battles are fought on open fields with troops moved in orderly precision; that the latter charge the enemy with lines in perfect order; advance again, wheel, or even retreat, without breaking ranks except as a wounded soldier may fall here and there. From these pictures they will learn that there is great regularity in the movements of soldiers in actual warfare. They proceed, obviously under orders, but with a measure of individual freedom not seen on the drill ground. They advance in a body in face of the enemy's guns when required, but it is progress quite different from that seen on the parade ground. Ranks are broken, the ground, commonly being irregular, making this necessary, and the men are only intent on arriving. If any fall by the way their places are filled and the dead and wounded are left behind. Or if they are not to charge but merely to find a firing line, they take advantage of hillocks as shields; they conceal themselves behind trees and shrubbery, or they hastily throw up breastworks and hid in the trenches behind them. Also they show a wonderful indifference to danger, the manner in which they move carelessly about within range of the enemy's guns proving this. Pint and quart cans Select Oysters at Prices. "DR,"SENDS BRICK TO COLLECT BILLS Mayor Objects to Crude Method and Assesses Fine of $5.00. The police department regards it as exceedingly rude, unprofessional and impolite for a gentleman to attempt to collect a bill from a lady with a brick, so when "Dr." II. L. Lanthier, chiropodist (office hours "9 to 12 dayley") resorted to such coarse work he was dragged before the mayor, who handed him a fine of $5 and costs. Lanthier has been boarding at the home of Mrs. Williams, 45 North Fifth street. He asserts she refused to make a settlement with him for errands he had run for her and other work and he became quite provoked. Standing in the street car tracks he hurled two bricks through the glass in the front door, one missle breaking a lamp. John Grimes became so boisterous on Pennsylvania train yesterday that he was ejected at the Richmond station and placed under arrest. He drew a fine of $1 and costs.

Keep Your Lungs Strong This advice is doubly important with 'the knowledge that every three minutes' some one in the United States succumbs to consumption and many refuse to realize they are afflicted until it is too late., v It is after colds or sickness, from overwork, confining duties or when general! weakness exists that tubercular germs thrive because the resistive powers o the body are weakened. Only with fresh air, sunshine and abundant rich blood can one hope to arrest their progress, and the concentrated fats in Scott's Emulsion furnish fuel for rich blood, and ita rare nourishment helps strengthen the lungs while it builds up the forces. If you work indoors, tire easily, feel languid orrnn-down Scott's Emulsion is the mo6t strengthening food-medicine known and is free from alcohol or stupefying drugs. EDISON Diamond Vise There are certain features that make this instrument a really new instrument in the field of music. Its new voice comes from a system of sound reproduction upon which Mr. Edison has worked for the last thirty-seven years. By the use of the permanent diamond as the reproducing point, eliminating the constant changing of needles, this instrument pours out its music with a sweetness that is unique. The Edison Diamond Is the only instrument that reproduces all the overtones, upon which all music is dependent for its sweetness. Come in today and let me play your favorite selection.
