M'Minil LEADS MED III ATTACK ON FILTH

John McMlnn, member of the board of public works, announced today that he would take a gang oi men tomorrow and begin on a systematic cleanup of the Btreets and alleys of the city. "We will start In the east end ot town and go through every seciton, removing ashes, waste and loose papers," said McMlnn. "Every part of the city will be cleaned thoroughly." Extra men have been assigned to the regular street gang to assist in this clean up work. As soon as the freezing weather ends men will be given employment by the city on street repair work. There have been a large number of jobless men visiting the city bulldiug for the past week in search of employment. One aged man when he asked for work Saturday cried like a baby. He said he had to have work or starve. That the city of Richmond is to assist Its unemployed as much as possible by providing work for them, has Fpread about the country, as is evidenced by a letter Chief of Police Uoodwin receive dtoday from a man In Bristol, Tenn., asking for work. He will be informed that the city cannot provide work for any men not living In the city.

Turkeys are reported scarce, and the prices will run from 25 cents to 30 cents for dressed birds. Dressed chickens for those who prefer them will cost from 18 cents to 25 cents a pound. Cranberries are 10 cents a quart, pumpkins 10 cents each or 10 cents a can for the prepared kind. Sweet potatoes are 15 cents a quarter peck,

amd the Irish variety 65 cents to 75 cents a bushel. . Good bulk apples run from 75 cents to 85 cents a bushel, and fancy barrel stock of the good keeping varieties run from $2 to $3.50. Oysters are 40 cents a quart for standards, and 50 cents for selects. Parsnips 5 cents a pound, turnips 10 centB a quarter peck, home grown celery 5 cents to 8 cents a bunch. Imported cauliflower 15 cents to 20 cents a bead, lettuce either head or leaf 20 cents a pound. Oranges on Market. Oranges will sell from 20 to 30 cents a dozen, lemons 20 cents to 25 cents, and grape fruit 6 for 25 cents. The new crop of buttered walnuts, an improvement on the English walnut Is now on the market at 35 cents a pound, and the new Chili nuts are

25 cents. The new pecans nave not appeared. Raisens are 15 cents a pound or two pounds for 25 cents, and currants are 15 cents a pound. Dressed chickens run from 18 cents to 25; cents a pound, or the live birds can be had from farmers at 9 and 10 cents a pound. Eggs are scarce . and only a few dozen fresh eggs being delivered in the city this week. The storage eggs bring the same price as fresh ones, 35 cents a dozen. Country butter is 35 cents and creamery 38 cents a pound.

Many amusing stories are told concerning Hurryup Yost, the great Michigan coach, to ffhow that he is a hurry-up person in verything he does, and that he has absolutely no patience with delays. Once upon a time Yost invited a friend to visit him at a place where he was ramping. The friend arrived in iue time, and Yost met him with a buggy and proceeded to drive the friend to the camp. Yost drove his horses like he drives his footballers fast and still faster. Jn due course of time they reached a small creek, and Yost, instead of driving a half-mile for a bridge, drove across the little stream. It was a time caving process. The horses were going at a great clip. The buggy struck a rock and nearly upset. Yost's friend whs thrown out of the riE and into the

Yost, who had been busily engaged in talking and driving at the same time, never noticed the absence of his friend until he reached the other side of the creek. Then he pulled his horses down to a jog, looked back, and saw his friend wallowing in a deep pool in the creek. "Hey: whatinell you delaying things for any way?" yelled Yost. "Hustle up and set out of that creek; can't wait all day!"
