PLAN FOR A HOSPITAL
tractor and Architect to Estimate Cost of Adequate Institution. That there are between 450 and BOO cases of tuberculosis in Wayne county is the estimate made by the special committee which was appointed by the couuty commissioners to investigate the deed of establishing a tuberculosis colony in Wayne county. The committee at its meeting: yesterday afternoon received the figures which are being prepared by Earlham students and while all the data is not in, it will show that there are about 70 deaths every year from the disease and at least 450 cases in the county all the time. The committee decided thaf some drastic action should be taken to take care of the destitute cases and all cases which are spreading the disease by lack of proper regulation and segregation. It was pointed out that while there is a law requiring every physician to report any case of tuberculosis there are but very few cases ever reported. The committee at its meeting on next Friday will have the state representative of the Anti-Tuberculosis society, with a contractor and architect, to decide on a plan for a building which would be adequate and efficient for the county. As soon as the committee can decide on a definite plan with an estimate of the cost, the county commissioners and the county council will be asked to take action to provide for the immediate regulation of the disease. At present there is no place or institution where are person suffering from tuberculosis can be taken. Those present at the meeting were Dr. Arthur J. Whallon, Dr. A. L. Bramkanip, I,. S. Bowman, Dr. S. Edgar liond, John Melpolder and E. H. Harris.
ADMITS MAN'S QUILT BUT VV1HSF R EEDO M Strayer Persuades Jury to Acquit Branson on ShortWeight Charge. Although At tornoy Frank Strayer,
representing Thomas ttranvoit, charted
with selling a short nwaauro'of iHta toes to Albert Griffiths, n invtulwr of the fire department, in making hi argument before the jury which heard the case in city court, admitted that
his client was guilty as charged, he played upon the aympathles of the jurymen to such an extent that they
returned a verdict of not guilty. The jury received the case at 3:20 o'clock yesterday afternoon but did not return a verdict until 7 o'clock last night. Strayer told the jurymen that Branson was a poor man with a large family to support, and if he had given Griffiths only four and a half bushels of potatoes when Griffiths contracted for five bushels it was an unintentional mistake, and that later Griffiths had been given another half bushel of spuds by Branson. The jurymen went supperless last evening owing to the fact that the police had no funds to be drawn upon to meet the expense of feeding the men. During the trial a fire alarm came In and the prosecuting witness, Griffiths, made an exciting exit from the court room.

BOARD TO ESTIMATE DITCH ASSESSMENT
The assessment of the Nettle Creek ditch improvement in the northwestern part of Wayne county and part of Randolph county will be made out In the next week by an assessing board consisting of W. A. Lewis, Wayne county ditch commissioner, H. A. Blckle, Randolph county ditch commissioner and Levi C. Peacock, Wayne county surveyor. The residents of several townships filed a petition in circuit court eight months ago and as a strong remonstrance was later filed, it will be necessary to list prospective assessments of damages and benefits before taking further action. The petitioners asked that the creek be cleared for several miles to make a natural water course which would drain the territory in parts of four or five townships.
PRISONER ATTACKS BOY THROUGH BARS John Cupples Gets Black Eye Bruised Face and Fine for Deed.
Ireland's annual production of honey approximates 500,000 pounds.
Last night four young boys who had run away from their home, were taken from the Home for the Friendless, where they had been quartered, and removed to the city building. There it was decided to place them in the jail corridor until time for the late night train for Chicago. The youngest boy, Lawrence Baker,
aged 12, was asked by an intoxicated man, John Cupples, who leered through the bars of the "drunk room," to shut off the steam of a radiator. "I don't know how," replied the youngster, whereupon Cupples reached his arm through the bars, hit the boy a terri
ble blow on the head and sent him sprawling. What happened to Cupples Is not told by the police, but when he was arraigned on a charge of assault and battery he had a black eye and a bruised face. There was an officer in the jail when Cupples struck little Lawrence Baker. Cupples first entered a plea of not guilty, but finally admitted his guilty and was fined $10 and costs.
TO LEAVE CITY, - Walter Davis was arraigned this morning on a charge of having stolen a pipe valued at $5 from William Doyle, a barber. Friends Interceded In his behalf and the case was finally dismissed when Davis promised to leave the city and return to his home in Cincinnati

The county districts have been unusually free from disease this winter according to reports received by
County Health Officer Krueger. There are no cawes of typhoid fever in these districts, an unusual condition for this ttrason of the year. A number of cases of typhoid have been reported from the small towns surrounding Richmond. The work of Dr. Lou Clem, dairy inspector has been highly praised by physicians, and others, who consider that the present good condition of all the dairies is largely due to his efl'orts. Their cleanliness is reflected iu the county's health physicians say.

Peruna Is A Tonic and
Strength Builder So Says Mrs, Frank Stroebe, R. F. D. 1, Appleton, Wis. Her letter
reads: "1 began using Peruna a few months ago when my health and strength were all gone, and I was nothing but a nervous wreck. Could not sleep, eat or rest properly, and felt no desire to live. "Three bottles of Peruna made me look at life in a different light, as I began to regain my lost strength. While my recovery took nearly four months, at the end of that time I was better than I ever had been before. I had a splendid color and never weighed more in ray life. "I certainly think Peruna is without a rival as a tonic and strength builder, and it has my endorsement." Mr. Charles Brown, R. R. 4, Box 79, Rogers ville, Tenn., writes: "I have tried many different remedies, but have found that Peruna is the greatest tonic on earth, and a perfect system builder." Adv.
