Coroner Places Belief in Existence of Pact on Visit of Johnson to Maupin Homestead. DAUGHTER TO SUE Mrs. Zurwell Resents Charges Against Character of Dead Mother Dayton's Murder Remains Mystery. Coroner R. J. Peirce today gave lupport to the theory that the deaths Df Mrs. Clara Dayton-Maupin and Bert Johnson were the result of a suicide pact; Mrs. Dayton-Maupin was the! idow of Henry Dayton, murdered! late in the fall of 1911 and his bones j found a year later in the cellar of his home on North J street. Johnson, mentally defective, at the time of the discovery of the crime was a boarder ut the Dayton home. Coroner Peirce said today that in his opinion, after taking testimony regarding the suicide of Mrs. DaytonMaupin, Johnson had purchased the carbolic acid which the woman used to kill herself Wednesday night. Johnson Visits House. In the testimony of Mrs. Edna Zurwell, daughter of the dead woman, she states that about 7 o'clock yesterday morning Johnson appeared at her mother's home and inquired of Archie Bowles, the son, "what was going on," to which Bowles replied: "Nothing much." She says she then confronted Johnson and said to him, "Get out of here; you've done your dirty work and I don't want you ever to set foot In this house again." She Bays Johnson turned deathly pale and walked away. Later, she said, she beard that he had killed himself. "When Mrs. Zurwell told Johnson that he had 'done his dirty work,' It was my impression that she meant he had purchased the acid her mother had taken," Dr. Peirce said. Woman Threatens Suits. Mrs. Zurwell was in a very bitter tiiood today and she declared that immediately after her mother's funeral she intended to institute slan der suits. "My mother's character j can't be slandered even if she is dead end I won t stand to have my character blackened, either," she declared, her eyes snapping. "The story that my mother blackmailed Bert Johnson into giving her money by threatening to fasten the charge of murder on him if he didn't pay her is a lie," she continued. "Johnson gave my mother money occasionally but he did so voluntarily and she never asked him to do so." Asked what she meant when she ordered Johnson from the house yesterday after telling him he had "done bis dirty work," she said she was angry at Johnson because he had always wanted to force hts attentions on her j mother. She did not charge that Johneon had purchased the acid her mother used to commit suicide. Peirce Finishes Case. "Johnson was always coming to the liouse to see mother when my brother and myself were not at home. He always wanted to be alone with her," jtlrs. Zurwell said. Coroner Peirce has completed seHOW TO PREVENT ACID STOMACHS AND FOOD FERMENTATION By a Stomach Specialist. As a specialist who has spent many years in the study and treatment of Btomach trouble, I have been forced to the conclusion that most people who complain of stomach trouble possess Stomachs that are absolutely healthy and normal. The real trouble, that which causes all the pain and difficulty, is excessive acid in the stomach, BKKravated by food fermentation.. Hyperacidity irritates the delicate lining Df the stomach and food fermentation causes wind which distends the stomach abnormally, causing that full bloated feeling. Thus both acid and fermentation interfere with and retard the process of digestion. The stomach is usually healthy and normal, but Irritated almost past enduifince by these foreign elementsacid and wind. In all such sases and they comprise Dver 90 per cent of all stomach difficulties the first and only step necessary is to neutralize the acid and stop the fermentation by taking in a little warm or cold water immediately after eating, from one to two teaspoonfuis of bisurated magnesia, which is doubtless the best and only really effective antacid and food corrective kiown. The acid will be neutralized and the fermentation stopped olmost instantly, and our stomach will at once proceed to digest the food in a healthy, normal manner. Bo sure to ask your drugpist for the bisurated magnesia, as 1 have found other forms utterly lacking In its peculiarly valuable properties. V. J. (5. (Advertisement)

MISS BEN NER FALLS III FAIIIUT ROOMS Visiting Nurse Although 111 Continues Rounds Until Completely Exhausted. With between eighty and ninety cases on her hands to keep in con
stant communication, Miss Florence Benner, visiting nurse, refused to give up her work until yesterday after she fainted from exhaustion. She has symptoms of typhoid fever. Miss Benner has been ill for ten days but she said nothing about it. Members of the Domestic Science and her associates spoke of it and she admitted that she could hardly comeplete her rounds. She continued to visit regularly sick and suffering people who are listed on her books. Wednesday night Miss Benner could hardly make her way home, she said yesterday. In a daze, she went to her room at Mrs. White's on Fort Wayne avenue. She fainted and after she regained consciousness called for some time before assistance came. She was then placed in the care of a physician who refused to permit her to leave her room. Her case will have developed enough to determine whether it is typhoid fever by tomorrow. If such is the case, she will be immediately removed to the hospital. Miss Benner has been caring for two typhoid fever cases for the past six weeks. Miss Henderson took over the visiting nurse work yesterday. There is now a shortage of nurses in the city as several others have been ill. Miss Benner makes more than 200 visits a month and has seventy cases on her books. With transient cases, these amount to almost 100 a month. BECK MAY ALLOW ONE DWOI BOXES Post Office Will Stop Deliveries Where Patrons Fail to Get Receptacles. The postoffice probably will make Monday a day of grace to the ten per cent of Richmond postoffice patrons who have failed to have letter boxes placed at their front doors, unless contrary orders are received from the first assistant postmaster general tomorrow. The postoffice had orders to give sixty days' notice before cutting off mail delivery. The sixty days will be up Monday. As the last ten per cent will receive punishment in the form of curtailed service unless they respond to the order, Monday will be made a delivery day to every home. The postmen will list houses which have failed to comply on Monday and Tuesday morning their mail will be available at the general delivery window at the postoffice. This will be continued on every patron who refuses to purchase or make and install a box. One patron was informed of the order in person. The postoffice department had never had the family's name, and no mail had ever been delivered there. The housewife informed the carrier that no box would be put up, and that she did not want any mail brought to the house at any time. Additional orders regarding the box rule are expected tomorrow. WINCHESTER PASTOR DELIVERS ADDRESS The "Win-My-Chum" services at Grace M. B. church have been very successful this week. Speakers have been present at each meeting and have added to the interest. Last night the Rev. M. Morris of Winchester spoke to the young people. The Rev. Mr. JJerbe of Williamsburg will be the apeaked tonight, and the last meeting will be held Sunday night, with the Rev. U. S. A. Bridge as the speaker. curing testimony in connection with the suicide of Bert Johnson, but none of the witnesses referred to Johnson's relations with Mrs. Dayton-Maupin. Archie Bowles in his testimony concerning his mother's death, said for some time past she appeared to be greatly worried at frequent intervals and at such times would not talk with members of the family for hours at a time. He said she had been addicted to the use of intoxicating liquors and that she had been in ill health for four or five months. Bowles, like his sister, Mrs. Zurwell, assigned as cause for his mother's suicide despondency over ill health. No testimony was brought out which would shed any further light on the murder of Henry Dayton. It was persistently reported last night and today that Bowles had killed himself and at police headquarters the phone was almost in constant use for a time denying this report.
