COMPANIES FAIL TO TAKE ACTION ON SM SUBWAY Representatives of C. & O. and Piano Factory Estimate Cost and Call Meeting for Decision. At a meeting held today at the city building, attended by members of the board of public works, Harry Gennett, reprenenting the Starr Piano company.
and Superintendent W. L. Booth and Division Engineer Henry Bertram of the C. & O. railroad, the question of a subway under the C. & O. tracks at the foot of South B street, was distUSHPd. Mr. Gennett asserted that further Fouth there was a subway but many of the factory employes would not use it because the B street crossing was a shorter route for them. He said two employes had had narrow escapes from death on this crossing and said a subway there was necessary to insure the safety of the people using this crossing. Mr. Booth objected to the construction of a Rub way. "I frankly plead poverty as the reason for the company's objection to this improvement," he said. He also pointed out that in constructing the subway further south along the line the company had afforded satisfactory access and egress to the piano factory. Company to Help. Mr. Gennett said the company would pay $250 as its share of the cost of the improvement. The board objected to the city paying any share of the cost, paying that it had paid part of the t ost of the other subway. Mr. Booth asked Mr. (iennett if his company would not agree to pay half the cost of the improvement, and was told it would not. Mr. Booth suggested closing up the crossing with a fence, but was told that the crossing was a public street. He then said he did not see where his company was to be benefited by such an improvement. "I suppose there will have to be a killing or two on the crossing before the C. & O. realizes the importance of 1 roviding protection there," remarked Mr. Gennett. It was decided to estimate what the cost of the Improvement would be and to hold another meeting later. Shively Goes Back to Senate

Breeder Proud of Grade Animals
While the price of market hogs ia steadily declining, and the value of hogs on the farms has decreased at least 30 per cent in the last month, Frank Underhill, of Woodland Farm near Greensfork, is not worrying. About a year ago Mr. Underhill went into the pure bred Duroc business, and will soon have his first sale of pure bred hogs. A few days ago he was offered $750 for his yearling herd boar, Cherry King Orion, and he has had several good offers for some of his other stock.
Mr. Underhill has been highly complimented by Duroc breeders from Ohio and Indiana on the selection of his breeding animals and in his first year has built up a fine herd of individuals. Mr. Underhill said, "In starting out in this business I felt that it -would pay me to buy the best I could afford. A half brother of Cherry King Orion sold for $1,000, and another for $800 and these sales combined with the recent offer for my hog, make me feel that I have a popular line of breeding." Mr. Underhill has followed scientific methods in handling his herd, and has built a modern hog house,

HOW YOU MAY THROW AWAY YOUR GLASSES
The statement is made that thousands wear eyeglasses who do not really need them. If you are one of these unfortunates, then these glasses may be ruining your eyes instead of helping them. Thousands who wear these "windows" may prove for themselves that they can dispense with glasses if they will get. the following prescription filled at once: Go to A. G. 1uk.en & Co., or to any active drug store and get a bottle of Optona; fill a two-ounce bottle with warm water and drop in one Optona tablet. With this harmless liquid solution bathe the eyes two to four times daily, and you are likely to be astonished at thS results right from the start. Many who have been told that they have astigmatism, eye-strain, cataract, sore eyelids, weak eyes, conjunctivitis and other eye disorders, report wonderful benefits from the use of this prescription. Get this prescription filled and use It; you may so strengthen your eyes that glasses will not be necessary. Thousands who are blind, or nearly so, or who wear glasses would never have required them if they had cared for their eyes in tim. Save your eyes before it is too late. Do not become one of these victims of neglect. Eyeglasses are only like crutches, and every few years they must be changed to fit the ever-increasing weakened condition, so better see If you can, like many others, get clear, healthy, strong magnetlo eyes through the prescription hare given.

the efficiency of the vaccination treatment as a prevention of cholera and keeps all his stock immune. Mr. Underhill'B Bale on Nov. 5, bids fair to mark a new era in the hog business for Wayne county, as most of the most prominent breeders have signified their intention of attending the sale. A number of young farmers of the same community have made plans to go into the business, and VL is thought that a co-operative hog sale
may be arranged as an annual event,
that will put wayne county permanent ly on the hog map.

Best Laxative
For Children
When your baby is cross and fretful, instead of the happy, laughing little dear you are accustomed to, in all probability the digestion has become deranged and the bowels need attention. Give it a mild laxative, dispel the irritability and bring back the happy content of babyhood. The very best laxative for children is Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin, because it contains no opiate or narcotic drug, is pleasant tasting and acts gently, but surely without griping or other distress. Druggists sell Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin at fifty cents and one dollar a bottle. For a free trial bottle write to Dr. W. B. Caldwell, 451 Washington St., Monticello, 111.
