INDIANAPOLIS HEWS SUED BY TAGGART ON SLANDER CHARGE
BY LEASED WIRE. INDIANAPOLIS. Oct. 2. Following publication today of the filing of a suit for alleged slander by Democratic National Committeeman Taggart against the Indianapolis News, that newspaper today published an editorial "explanation" stating in substance that their discussion in Wednesday's editorial which was withdrawn after the "Noon" edition, wa8 not intended as a reflection on Taggart's personal life, or his personal morals; that the discussion had wholly to do with political systems. The News "cheerfully, without reserve and in utmost sincerity disclaims any intention to reflect on the personal character or habits" of Mr. Taggart. In his suit, Taggart asked for $25,000 damages. The editorial which caused the suit was headed "Carthage delena est" '"Carthage must be destroyed," and likened the so-called Democratic "maehane" in Indiana to "Carthage, a city of false and rotten religions, shameless Idolatry, resorts, saloons, gambling," etc The Markets Edited by A.
