MAN ABOVE PARTY WRITESJCHOLSO?! Prominent Friends Endorses Race of Elbert Russell for Congress. Timothy Nicholson has submitted .the following: "It is generally known that, while recognized as a Republican, If my party nominated for any office an incompetent or otherwise unsatisfactory man, he did not have my support and vote; and If another party bad a suit- ' able person, for the same position, I did not hesitate to give the latter my support. "Formerly this course was unusual and very unpopular and provoked both criticism and denunciation. Recently, however, I am glad to say the party that makes Improper nominations is criticised and denounced rather than its members who decline to support its nominees, and many voters no longer support their party candidate if unsatisfactory. In our last city election I made up my ticket from three political parties. "In the approaching state and county elections there will be more of this selection than ever before, especially for congress. I will say nothing derogatory to the Republican and Democratic nominees; but probably never before have the voters in the Sixth congressional district had the opportunity to vote for a man so admirably equipped for congress as is Prof. Elbert Russell not merely in scholarship but in civics, in political economy, municipal research, . state-craft, and other important elements of statesmanship and philanthropy. "Few men of his position and ability will make the sacrifice he has made in accepting the nominations, and I hope the majority of the voters in this district, regardless of their political affiliations, will support Prof. Elbert RUBsell for congress. "Very respectfully, "Timothy Nicholson."
