CROSSING PETITIONS VVORRYSOUTH SIDE Improvement Association De- !. fers Action Opposing E Street Bridge Location. t Members of the South Side Improveent association were considerably orrled last night over the fact that almost two thousand names have been Affixed to South E street brigge petitions, tout their attorney, Perry J. freeman assured them he had a newspaper copy of the original petition in which it is set forth that the bridge location should be "south of E street." "The commissioners' records at the tourt house show that the bridge sinking fund was started to build a bridge fas asked for in the petition,, " said Mr. Freeman. "I believe that we need pave no fear that the money will be Used for an E street bridge." ' It was decided to defer the action on lhe bridge matter until after the election.

Dr. Anna Howard Shaw, president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, who bitterly disapproves the metods of the Congressional Union for Woman Suffrage which has just started a vigorous fight on all Democratic statesmen who oppose their cause. Dr. Shaw's attitude is thought to indicate the liklihood of a split between the two suffrage associations.

City Statistics

Deaths and Funerals. James Edgar Dean, 44, died at his home 314 North Fourteenth street, this morning at 3 o'clock. He is survived by a widow and one daughter. Funeral arrangements will be made later. RANKIN Martha A. Rankin, 88, died this morning at 10:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Martha A. Rankin, 207 North Fourteenth street. Burial will take place at Bethel cemetery. Friends may call any time tomorrow.

PURDUE STUDENT INSPECTS HIGHWAYS

George -J. Martin of the Purdue engineering department, will inspect the county roads with Superintendent Jones tomorrow, to take back ideas on road building for Purdue's new highway engineering department. Mr. Jones will meet him in Hagerstown tomorrow. They will work towards Richr-ond along the county roads. Mr. Jones will show him a gang of prisoners who are work fixing a small strip of road east of Twenty-third street.

TO RE-FLOOR BRIDGE

New York city's post office which I for many years has occupied the Fed-!

eral building in city hall park, has been removed to the new building adjacent to the Pennsylvania railroad .station at Eighth avenue and thirty:third street The old building becomes now only a branch post office.

Application has been made by Charles Bond, trustee of Clay township, for the county commissioners to order the reflooring of the Fawcett bridge, near Greensfork. He says the bridge has not been repaired for twelve years and that it is dangerous for school hacks. The bridge has a 150 foot span with fifteen foot approaches on each side.

Great Britain, France and Russia have 156 battleships and cruisers under twenty years old, augainst fiftyfive of Germany and Austria.

German Prince Reported Captured

- According to a report received at the war office the French have captured the Prince of Bavaria at Nomey, fourteen miles north of Nancy. The prince "referred to is probably Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria, who is in command of the army that has been hammering' at the French line of fortifications between Youl and Verdun. No further confirmation of the report has yet been received. The Germans are said to be bombarding1 Nomey, with (the object of setting the prince free.

SCHOOLS TO CLOSE FOR STATE SESSION

In response to a unanimous request of the teachers of the township institute of Wayne county which met here Saturday, the township trustees in their monthly meeting today decided to close all schools on the last Friday In October to permit the teachers to attend the sessions of the Indiana State Teachers association at Indianapolis. ' The question was raised in the meeting as to when the township road supervisors shall qualify. The trustees who are going out of office on Jan. 1 do not understand by whom the supervisors shall be given the oath.

"Y" WILL SOLICIT MEN BY TEAMS ' C. E. Thomason, chairman of the membership committee of the Y. M. C. A., will be the master of ceremonies at the supper given tonight for the men and boys who will have charge of the membership campaign, October 13 to 17. The workers will be divided Into teams, each team to be headed by a captain who will direct the work. TEACHERS TO MEET The meeting of the Wayne County Teachers' 'association will be held in the high school building here October 24. Prof. O'Shay of the University of Wisconsin, will be the principal speaker. Rev. W. R. Motley of the Central Christian church, will deliver the invocation. The meeting will be one of two whichthe association holds annually.

CHARGES INFIDELITY

Horace E. Rolson today entered suit In circuit court against his wife, Maggie B. Rolson, who, he says, has spent the summer in running around with Alonzo James and other men known to him. He asked, that lie be granted a divorce from her. They were married August 30, 1908, and separated September 30, 1914. Her alleged infidelity is said by the plaintiff to have occurred In the last eight weeks of their residence together. He also says her language was "too obscene to be herein setforth."

Fifty cents a pound for butter, forty cents a dozen for eggs, forty cents for a spring chicken and thirty-five cents for a hen are prices listed by Mrs. S. H. Stevenson, wife of a farmer near Montrose, la., in writing to Postmaster Campbell that she is ready to sell direct to city consumers, shipping via the parcel post.
