DEFEAT FOR GRAYS RECRUITING STARS Richmond Manager Con sents to Allow Remington Use of Grounds for Sunday Morning Practice. That Manager Remington of the Connersville Grays Is loading up for the game Sunday at Athletic park is a well known fact. According to information in the hands of Manager Kenney of the Richmond team, there will be no more than five of the players who played against Richmond in the last game in the Connersville lineup Sunday. The team has been recruited with a number of the best players in Cincinnati. - Beside this, a request has been received from the Connersville team that it be allowed to practice on the local diamond Sunday morning. The team intends to arrive in the city Saturday afternoon and put in a good morning practice in anticipation of a stiff game in the afternoon. "Most assuredly you can use the diamond Sunday morning," Manager Kenny replied to Remington's inquiry. You may use the diamond all week if you want to. Will Win Anyway. "Be sure and let them use the park Sunday morning," writes Kenney to the local management. Tell Red Ireton to be on hand to chase their hits. Give them all the chance in the world, and then we will beat them. Tell them they can have the park all week, with the exception of Saturday afternoon, for we can beat them no matter how much practicing they do." The game promises to be an exciting one as the rivalry between the two teams is keen. Richmond has defeated the Grays two games,, by the scores of 5 to 3 and 5 to 0, and lost to them in a 2-to-l game. It is known definitely that Rem ington is loading up for the occasion, because he replied to the local management that he was unable to furnish the line-up for the game. It is not known exactly what line-up Kenney will use against them, but it is probable that the same line-up that has been used for the last four or five games will meet the Grays Sunday afternoon. PROMOTERS AFTER WELSH TO FIGHT BY LEASED WIRE. CHICAGO, Sept. 11. It did not take long after the announcement that Freddie Welsh is in this, country gained circulation for the promoters to get busy in an endeavor to secure the light-weight champ. Jimmy Coffroth, dean of boxing promoters, who stages his shows in San Francisco, has offer ed Welsh a guarantee of $50,000 for three fights, in a wire to the British boxer today. One of these battles is to be with Charlie White, and while Coffroth makes no mention of the oth er two fights, it is natural to suppose that Willie Ritchie will figure. MEET ALL STARS. The Fairview Reserves will play Eli Cates' all-star team Sunday at Fairview park. Cates formerly played on the Washington team in the American league, and has gathered together a fast bunch of players. The tax rate of the Spring Grove corporation for 1914, payable in 1915 will be $1.98. This is an increase of twenty cents over last year. Owing to needed road repairs and the lack of sufficient funds on the fifty-cent general fund levy last year, this was increased ten cents. The school tax stands at twelve cents, an increase of two cents. The responsibility for the remaining eight cents Increase is with the county. Isaac G. Dougan, president of the town board, said today that the little corporation did not obtain enough money last year to meet its expenditures comfortably although it was not necessary to borrow money. The town is still paying for its part of the brick street from the corporation line to the" hospital. Next year, Waterfall street and other Spring Grove roads will be graveled at the expense of the town. This is the only improvement contemplated. The matter of installing sidewalks and sewers which was discussed by the board last year has been dropped because of the heavy expense of such' improvements and the small number of citizens accommodated.
