MONDAY GAME FOR RICHMOND Southpaw Brings Record of Two Victories Over Wiedemanns in Contests Played Earlier in Season. Some classy pitching is expected to he exhibited Sunday and Monday afternoon when Richmond meets the Wiedemanns at Athletic park. "Lefty" James, who has played with teams that have given the Wiedemanns their only deefats this reason, will pitch against them again Monday. He 1b from Cincinnati, and is considered one of the fastest pitchers in semipro ball. He will be imported for the occasion by Dick Kenney, and is counted on to turn the trick again Labor day. He played with the West Covington team and the Versailles (Ohio) team when they defeated the Wiedemans. The Wiedemans have suffered only three defeats this season, and two of them was when James was pitching. Vordenburg will pitch the game Sunday for Richmond, and if he even approaches the form he was in when he pitched against Chick Log of Dennison, there is no doubt about the outcome. The Wiedemans will rely on Cefaula, an Indian, who, though young in the game, is proving to be exceedingly fast. In the game the Wiedemanns played last Sunday, Cefaula did not allow his opponents a hit. Ambrose Puttman, who played for several years with the New York Yankees, will also pitch one of the games against the locale. He left the Yankees in 1912 to take a position as manager in the Three-I league. He then went to the Louisville American association team, and the first part of this season was managing the Cincinnati Shamrocks. Bob Lasslng, an ex-college pitcher, will also be in the game against the Quakers. Last year he was the premier pitcher of the southern conference colleges. He played with Center university of Kentucky. Novack will catch the game Sunday afternoon. Netter has been placed in right field, and Kniseley will be on the bench Sunday, although he probably catch the game Monday. Midgets Hold Stars to Four Runs. The Playground Midgets defeated the Sam Owens South End Stars at the playgrounds Wednesday afternoon by the score of 6 to 4 Lahrman was invincible after the first inning, as only two hits were secured off of him after that inning. TO ARRANGE GOLF
MEET FOR WOMEN Because of the large number of women interested in golf at the country club links this summer, it is prob able that a tournament will be arrang ed later in the season. Nothing defi nite has been done by the golf committee of the club in arranging for a tournament at the present time but Harry Needham, chairman of the committee said today that if the women showed an interest in a tournament play, it would be arranged for them. There lire more women playing the game this season than ever before and it is because of this fact that it is believed that a tournament would be successful. Some excellent players have been developed among the fair sex this summer who would make good scores. The annual president's cup tourna ment will be started in about two weeks, according to Mr. Needham to day. The tournament will be played in the form of handicap matches, the players being awarded their handicaps by a committee which observes their season playing. The score made in tae prelimianry matches last week will be taken into consideration in making out the handicaps. BOYS BARTER WASH FOR POCKET MONEY Boys living in a good residence sec tion of the east end have been getting their spending money at the expense of their neighbors, and as a result, the police have been asked to protect washings hung out in certain east end back yards. Two or three families of boys have been indicted by women who have suffered by their financial efforts. They say the boys take clothes oft' wash lines and sell them to old clothes and ragmen. They are also accused of entering sheds and barns and picking up things which can be sold for junk. When not doing these things, the women claim, the boys are riding up and down the sidewalks on noisy wag ons, making loud noises, vocal or otherwise, and hatching out additional plans to add to the discomfort of the residents. The police promised to warn the parents of the boys who were named to them. ' In Russia bricks made of coal dust are used for paving; the coal dust is combined with treacle and resin.

Just Stop and Think
Electric Light
Why, before the City Plant became a reality, electric lighting was considered a luxury, and in only a few homes was electric light used. Today, in the majority of our homes you will find electric light, this made possible by the City Plant. Our Factories Were Handicapped They were forced to keep on with the old way of using steam to run their machinery, as the price of electricity was too high, and now, today, over 85 per cent of the power that propels the wheels of industry of our local factories is electricity, and this, too, made possible by the City Plant. $75.00 For Street Lights Now $35.00 Before the City Plant was installed you were paying to a private corporation for your street lighting $75.00 per light per year, and today the City Plant is furnishing your street light at the cost of only $35.00 per light per year. And just this year a reduction of 16 2-3 per cent on the cost of electricity was made possible by the City Plant. Above are but a few of the many things the City Plant has done for you. Now, what are you going to do for the City Plant? There should be but one answer. That is: That you are going to let the City Plant furnish you with Elect icity. The service unequalled.' And you are helping home industry.

SEWAGE DISPOSAL RICHMOND PUZZLE Complaints Against Pollution of Whitewater to Demand Remedy, Says Mayor A better sewage disposal system for the city of Richmond is one of the questions that will have to be settled within the next three or four years, according to Mayor Robbins and some prominent members of the Commercial club in discussing the situation here. The Whitewater river is becoming so po.luted with the sewage of the city that complaints have been raised by cities south of Richmond
and it is probable that some solution to the problem will have to be reached within a comparatively short time. The complaint relative to the disposal of the refuse of a city is not only confined to Richmond, however, as the question has been raised in practically every city in the state that disposes of its refuse by means of a river. The state fish and game commission has complained to the state legislature that tnis method of sewage disposal is killing thousands of fish annually and on account of the growth of the cities in the state this condition is becoming gradually worse. Must Solve Problem. "If the city does not solve the prob lem of her own free will, it is only a matter of time when she will be required by state law to- solve the problem, so it is about time for the city to be thinking about it," says the mayor. When this comes about, it will mean another big expense to the city. The method suggested by the mayor is to construct a large sewer either along the river or in the river bottom with which all the branch sewers in the city will be connected, taking the sewage several miles south of the city to be disposed oi in a modern sewage disposal plant. This would cost the city thousands of dollars, according to the mayor, but is something that will have to be done. Kills Pesky Bed Bugs P. D. BUSINESS AT P. 0. GOOD FOR AUGUST
Despite War Beck's Report Shows Increase Over Same Month in 1913. - War and other conditions tending to keep, down postoffice business, had lit-! tie effect on the office, and August business was practically the same in . general as August, 1913. Money or- j der and other financial business was much larger for the month this year than last. Reports show that it is the biggest postal savings month since this department was put in operation ? two and one-half years ago. ' It is probable that the September : postoffice receipts will far exceed those of a year ago, as several hundred dollars' worth of supplies which should be included in the August re- : port were disposed of on the first day of this month. With normal business in other lines, an unusually big month will be the result, the postmaster stated. Foreign business has been curtailed by the war. There is very little foreign mailing in the postoffice now. Many postcards of the kind foreign governments permit their subjects to send out of the country, have come through the office for Richmond peo- , pie. No letters are permitted. Mexico's cotton crop, though exceptionally large, is practically useless in that country as since the picking season of last September, owing to the revolution.
