vllle, O., have received word of her engagement to a young man in nor home" town. The wedding will take place September 15. Miss Hoppe is a sister of Mrs. C. H. Harris and has frequently visited here. She is well known to the younger set, who wish her much happiness. C. R. Hawley returned Friday morning from a vacation trip to South Dakota, and reports heavy frosts in that section. Mesdames William Keister and Hannah Sawyer, of New Madison, Miss Sarah McGrew of Gratis, Mrs. Nathan Karns of Tulare, Cal., and Mrs. Jessie Melody were guests of Mrs. Caroline McGrew Friday. A new foundation for the linotypo machine is being built at the Mirror office by Northrop brothers. Herman Wittman was the winner In the Preble county corn contest, and will get to take advantage of the free trip to the state fair at Columbus. The election was held last week at Eaton, and there were seven applicants. Chelsea Rodefer of Washington township is alternate. Henry Miller entertained a jolly party of young people Thursday evening at hia home north of New Paris. There were fifty gueBts, mostly from the New Paris high school, and the evening was pleasantly passed with game3 and music. Delicious refreshments were served at a late hour. Sour Stomach.
