. A luncheon, beautiful In all of lta appointments and which proved to be on of the charming social functions of the week, was given this noon at the Country club by Mrs. Charles E. Bhlveler of South Fourteenth street, when she took this means of extending courtesy to her daughter Mrs. Harry N. Holmes, who with Dr. Holmes is leaving about the first of September for Oberlin, Ohio, where Dr. Holmes will be a member of the oollege faculty. The pretty fall flowers were used as a decoration. The color scheme, pink and green was carried out In all the table appointments. In the center of the table was a mound of pink asters surrounded by a bed of greenery, the ferns extending to the opposite ends of the table. A delicious collation in several courses wsb served. Covers were laid for Mesdames Jeannette Oaar Leeds, Fred Bates, Omar Holllngsworth, S. E. Smith, John H. Nicholson, S. E. Swayne, Albert D. Oayle, W. P. Robinson, Frederick Carr, Paul Comstock, George Seidel, Wilbur Hibberd, Ray Karr Shlveley, George Le Boutllller, Rudolph Gaar Leeds, Harry N. Holmes, Charles E. Shlveley, Misses Meb Culberteon, Margaret Starr, Clara Comstock and Edith Nicholson. Out of town guests at the picnic party given Tuesday afternoon at Glen Miller park by the Ladies Aid society of the Second Presbyterian church were Mrs. Thomas McNary of St. Louis, Mrs. Gartside, Mrs. Milton Emmett and Master Milton Emmett of Philadelphia. The afternoon was spent socially and with games. At 6 o'clock an elaborate supper was served pi nic fashion. The husbands of the members came out for supper. picnic party at Glen Miller park. The members of the club will go out In the afternoon, the husbands coming out for supper. This Is an annual affair and is always looked forward to with pleasure by those privileged to attend. Complimenting Mrs. Elizabeth Mock of Louisville, Ky., who Is the guest of Mrs. Harry Shaw at her apartments In the Reed Flats and other kinspeople, Mrs. Lauren Wbltsell gave a prettily appointed auction-bridge party this afternoon at her home on South Twelfth street. Late summer flowers were used in decorating the rooms where the guests were entertained. The game was played at two tables. Favors were given the fortunate ones. At the close of the afternoon's festivities a delicious luncheon waa served at the card tables. The guests were Mesdames George Fox, Burton Gaines, Ira Swisher, Harry Shaw, Elizabeth Mock of Louisville, Ky., Walter , Dalby, George Weir and Miss Alma Smith. An enjoyable event of the week was a lawn party given by the Misses Vera and Pearl Knoll at their pretty country home east of Whitewater in honor of their cousin Miss Ruby Stelnbiink of Richmond. The rooms were prettily decorated with summer flowers. After several hours of games and music dainty refreshments were served. The affair promises to be most enjoyable. Mr. Henry Schneider, aged eight-one years, one of the oldest German residents of this city was honored with a party given last evening by several members of his family at bis home, 617 South Seventh street. The lawn was prettily decorated In Japanese lanterns. The hours were spent socially and with music and games. Twenty-five guests including children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were In attendance. An elaborate luncheon was served Mr. Schneider was the recipient of many pretty and useful gifts. He came to this city when a lad fifteen years of age and has resided here ever since. Mrs. E. C. Earle of St. Louis, is the guest of Mr. John E. Pelts and family at their home on North Ninth street. Mrs. Earle will also visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Bartel, South Sixteenth street and other relatives before returning to St. Louis. Mr. and 'Mrs. James Mulford have gone to Greenville, 111., for a visit with relatives. From there they will go to St. Louis, Kansas City and Richmond, Kan. They will be accompanied home by their little granddaughter Miss Margaret Perry who has been spending the summer with an uncle in Kansas. All the men and boys of the First Baptist church will enjoy a picnic party Saturday evening in Glen Miller. The guests are asked to bring well filled baskets. All men of the city who are interested In the work of the church are also Invited to attend. to Mackinac Island for a ten day outing. Mrs. Robert H. Strong of Indianapolis, who win hare chance of the women's display of all kinds of fancy work and arts and crafts at the San Francisco Exposition, will be in Richmond Thursday. At ft: SO o'clock Thursday morning a meeting to be addressed by Mrs. Strong will be held at the home of Mrs. M. F. Johnston on North Tenth street. Miss Edna Johnson, county chairman is anxious that the meeting be well attended and also that Wayne county send a large exhibit to the exposition. All women In the county are invited to submit any kind of needlework for inspection at this time. Mrs. Strong has been attending a number of county fairs in order to inspect the work and secure pretty articles. Misses Florence and Goldie Triplett have gone to Baltimore and other points where they will spend their vacation. All members of the Epworth League of the Grace M. E.v church and their friends are Invited to attend the Colonial social which will be held this evening at 8 o'clock in the church parlors. There will be a number of interesting games for the amusement of the guests. Refreshments will be served. Miss Clara Thomas and Mrs. Minnie Hovelmeyer and daughters, Misses Elizabeth and Henrietta, have returned from a visit with relatives in Oakland, Maryland.
