BOARD TO PURCHASE HEW CORNER LIGHTS Bavis Says City Will Delay Residence District Plan No Longer. Delay In reaching a decision as to whether the Main street and North B street business districts are to be Illuminated, by a trolley-pole or ornamental standard lighting system will not Interfere with the Installation of a new street lighting system in other sections of the city. This fact was announced today by President Bavis of the board of public works. "The decision has been reached to purchase the new pendant lamps for the residential districts on August 17, which marks the end of the three weeks' period fixed to - consider the lighting problem for the business districts." j said Mr. Bavis. "At that time lamps for the business districts may also be purchased, but future developments will determine our action in that matter. It is a certainty, however, that the pendant lamps will be purchased on August 17th from one of the companies which submitted bids to the board on July 23. The board wants the new lighting system installed In the residential districts this fall, for better illumination In those sections of the city is needed much more than in the . business districts."

next news from Rome would not be surprising if it is an announcement of Italy's decision to throw her forces into the field to co-operate with Germany and Austria. Dispatches from Tokio to the war office here have caused much satisfaction. Japan today reaffirmed her readiness to stand by the spirit of her agreement and aid England in the far East. International diplomats today admitted that the war situation eventually would probably involve every nation in Europe. The announcement that President Wilson had offered the good offices of the United States in behalf of peace did not do much to lift the pessismism which has settled over London
