They made himSan offer far In excess of that of Somera. They recognised worth and were willing to pay 'the full price. Falkeaberg's heart had been in his work In Cleveland. He (would have preferred- to repnaln there, and undoubtedly would have remained on the Naps roster if Sonbrs had offered about $1.0e0 more. But Somers didn't. He vorerloilked the' fact that (the Federal 'leagueVwas a shaven for Ithe underpaid stars. With Falkenberg on tthe , firing line tfor Cleveland this year and pitching

Naps now would be in aVpennant ght Instead of ' hopelessly in tthe rut. The denlorable weakness of Its pitching

lers so often. He wouldn't have to experiment so much. The result would have been at least ten of the games that have been lost -would have been won by Ffflkenbecg. Furthermore, If the Naps had won i those ten games Instead of losing them, it would have enthused Instead of disheartened them. Tbey would have played better baseball and fought harder, and,' no doubt, woaM have won at least six of the other games that they have thrown away by indifferent work. Think of what a difference this would have made to the Naps! July 5 Is regarded as the half way mark in the ibaseballi season. This year it found
the (Naps wtth a standing of 25 games won and 46 lOBt for a percentage of .352. it Falkenberg has been with them and these 16 games had been won instead of being thrown away by miserable pitching and inconsistent, featureless playing, the-standing of the Naps on July 5th -would have been 41 gimes won and 31 lost, tfor a percentage of ..569. This would , have put them just a jump behind the) league-leading Athletics and wfth a fine chance for world's series honors. I ' : .Woman's Duty to Herself. HEW HYDRO PLAIIT TO COST MILLIONS
EDMONTON, Alta., July 28. Six million dollars 'is the estimated cost of a hydro-electric plant to be installed in the Saskatchewan river, 60 miles west of Edmonton, by Jackson and company, headed by Sir John Jackson, of Glasgow, if the city of Edmonton will enter into a contract with a syndicate of Montreal and London capitalist) to purchase power at a lower rate than it is now manufactured by the city. The present cost is 1 cents per k. w. h. The plan contemplates the development of 40,000 horse power. Representatives of Sanderson and Porter of New -York, submitted an offer to the municipality two weeks ago to install a plant, costing $3,500,000, to supply electrical power to the city on a sliding scale, ranging from one cent to a hatf cent per k. w. h., according to the quantity used. Under this plan the minimum guarantee is 50,000,000 k. w. h a year. The council will deal with these propositions within, the next two or three weeks.
