S, A. L. TEAMS GET

STRONGER PLAYERS Season's Advance Sees Players Working Hard to Land

First Place.

SATURDAY'S GAMES. A. S. M. vs. McGuires, Athletic park. 2 o'clock. Eaathaven vs. Wayne Works, Easthaven park, 2 o'clock. Robinsons vs. Natcos, Playgrounds, 2 o'clock. Panhandles vs. Ad-Hills, Natco park, 2 o'c!6ck.

A number of shifts and changes will be made in the lineups of the eight S. A. L. teams in the games Saturday which , promise to make all of the games faster. The poorer players are gradually being eliminated and new players who show ability are being placed on the lineups. The teams are becoming better balanced each week and the interest is growing continually. The Natco team has been reinforced with several new players who are experienced and it is believed, their losing streak will be broken tomorrow wth victory. None of the teams are out of the running, since only five games have been played to date and no team has more than a one game lead on another. Enthusiasm is rampant at McGuires and last Saturday a large number of "rooters" were present to witness the game, : This team is now leading the league. The game.1 tomorrow between the McGuires and the A.. S. M. promises ti be a fast affair. Taggart,-who pitched for the all-star team against Muncie last Sunday, is pitching for the A. S. M.'s and is putting up a fast article of bail.

SIGN LONG TO HURL CON NERSVILLE GAME

With Chick Long at the pivot position Sunday, Richmond is determined . to give Connersville some of their own medicine at Athletic park to even up the defeat administered the Quakers last Sunday at Connersville. ... " ' Word was received by the local club this morning from Manager Kenney, that Chick Long has been signed for the game Sunday and will again appear in a Richmond uniform. Long pitched for the team early in the season and made a wonderful showing. He has been on the reserve list of the , Three I league for the past three weeks but was released temporarily for the game Sunday. Kenny has been after him for several weeks and had -a. hard time getting him. Vordenburg will be on the bench. Although he pitched an excellent game against the Elmwoods a week ago Sunday, he weakened in the game with Connersville Sunday and Kenney is afraid to risk him again. Don Netter, another former player of the Richmond team, will appear in right field Sunday to take the place of McCann. McCann's slump in the last few weeks has necessitated a change in that position and local fans are satisfied with the choice of Netter, who has beon playing with the Maysvijle, Ky., team. Connersville is coming loaded up with determination to repeat the trick of last week. Keifell, catcher and field-manager of the Connersville Grays, has been in Cincinnati all week getting new players. It is expected that even a stronger bunch will face tne locals here than the team last Sunday. A special train will be run from Connersville, via Rushville, Sunday morning, and it is reported that more than 150 rooters will accompany the team here. Outside of Long and Netter, the Richmond team will line-up the same as last week, with Netter leading off. Long will take Vordsnburg's place in the batting order.

TALK OF WEATHER

PEEVES FAT

MA

"I wish people would quit reminding me of the heat." grumbled one of the city's fat men as he mopped great beads of perspiration from his red brow -' ' "I wouldn's suffer half so much if other people would keep their mouths shut" he continued. "About the time I forget how hot it is, some well-meaning friend comes along and exclaims, 'Aren't you just smothering?' and right then I just break out with perspiration. "It's a peculiar and senseless custom we have of calling attention to the weather all the time, when there are thousands . of other things more interesting and a lot more comfort-

HOT WEATHER EVEN HALTS BOYS' GAMES

Hot weather has put a temporary crimp into the baseball games that school boys, off on their vacation, have been playing on the city's streets. Even the youngsters believe there is such a thing as rest, possible under a shade tree. During the heat of the day, few of them have energy enough to start a game. A suggestion to take a hike along the river bottom is more apropos and meets with general acceptance, but suggestion of a game, strange to ay, gets no approval. Wait till the sun is down, is the new slogan of the boys.
