F. AUGU8TUS HEINZE. According to William Traverse Jerome, F. Augustus Heiuze, the former copper king, is seriously ill at his home on West Thirteenth street, New York, and is too ill to appear in court in the $275,000 judgment suit obtained against him for default. The suit concerned a promissory not given by Heinze in pay for 13,000 shares of stock of the Mercantile National bank.

MILITIA HELD READY TO PATROL BUTTE

BUTTE, Mont., June 24. Martial la in liutte is a step nearer today as a result of the battle last night between deputy sheriffs and miners in vhich one man was shot to death, two were seriously wounded by bullets and a. number were less seriously injured by dynamite exploded by the mine workers. The town is quiet today and Mayor Duncan notified Governor Stewart that he is in complete control. The governor has decided not to send the m.iitia at present, but has ordered several companies to be in readiness to proceed to Butte on short notice. The riot followed an attempt by President Charles H. Mover, of the .Western Federation of Miners to hold a conciliation niee'ing for an adjustment of differences between two warring factions of miners. The insurgent miners dynamited Union hall aftthe shooting. Meyer and his personal party fled through a rear door as soon as the trouble began.

MATTY UMPIRES GO FOR ASYLUM TEAMS

NE7VY YORK, Jane 24 Christy Mathewson accepted an invitation of Charles D. HilHs, president of the Juvenile asylam, and visited the children's village in Echo Hills, back of Dobbs Ferry. The great pitcher was welcomed by 550 boys, who cheered him as their guest, accepted with admiring awe his advice on how to pitch and good naturedly Jeered him as an umpire. The boys were in the middle of one of their regular league gamoa when Matty arrived in the village. Play was halted while the youngsters cheered him as their idol. When the game was resumed Matty was back of the pitcher umpiring. He was called upm to make several close decisions and on each occasion was politely informed that he was "rotten." After the game he talked to the boys. "Let me give you a little advice on pitching,". he said. 'Don't be too anxious to throw a curve. Some of the best curve pitchers I have known were never able to make the big leagues. The reason was that they could never attain control."

MASONS OF LAPORTE DEDICATE TEMPLE

LA PORTE, Iml., June 24. With a street demonstration in which hundreds of Knights Templar marched, the Masonic fraternity of this city today dedicated their new $100,000 temple, one of the most elaborately appointed in Indiana. Grand lodge officers attended in a body. The address of the day was given by M. R. Sutherland. Nearly every city in this section of the state sent uniformed bodies to participate.

WILSON KISSES CHILD
