JEFFERSON PEOPLE STRONGJOR COBB W. O. Jones Declares Township Will Fight for Agent and Wife.

V. O. Jones, county road superintendent, believes entire Jefferson township iri for A. I'. Cobb, county Hgent and that the farmers there will tight for hits return. "I never saw any community so enthusiastic since Cobb has come," Jones declared. -He has been the means of creating two organizations, the east and west school associations, where farmers can set together for business and social reasons and we have found it most beneficial to us as a community. 1 do not know a man in Jefferson township who does not have a good word for Cobb. I believe his friends will fight for him. "Not only is Cobb popular among the farmers, but his wife is thought the same of by the farmer's wives. "We realize that the couple is young but both have had the advantage of scientific training. Cobb's practical experience has never been doubted in Jefferson township as he has lived his entire life on a farm except when he attended Purdue. Every farmer in the township, w ho is a farmer and who is making good at it. stands for Cobb."

DROUTH

After the preliminary shower early ill the week, the real rain which broke

the long drouth fell in Richmond and Wayne county yesterday afternoon and last night. Instruments at the water works pumping station recordeft a rainfall of 1.12 inches, which is considered enough to wet the ground thoroughly. Accompanied by vivid lightning flashes and rumblings of thunder, no damage was done by the storm, although muny aged weather prophets had predicted that a terrific electrical storm would accotjpany the rain. Damage was reported in the northern part of the state where the rainfall

was heavier and the storm more severe. Farmers are much relieved since the bhower, which they say, followed by warm nights, which are sure to come

in June, will make the corn and other crops flourish. RAINS FALSETEETH. CHICAGO, June 5. The explosion of a vulcanizing machine in a dent

matory much combustible trash has been placed on the various city dumps, which fact led to the revolt of the Richmond avenue housewives, who waited upon the board yesterday and militantly demanded relief. It was a mistake in the first place to locate a dump in one of the central residential districts, but this was done ten years ago and the mistake cannot be undone. In the future only dirt is to be placed on this dump and it probably would be many years, if ever, before it would be safe to use this reclaimed territory for building purposes because of its insecure foundation. HowpTer, the board believes that within two or three years enough dirt will have been placed on the dump for it to make a presentable appearance and cease to be one of the city's running sores. By that time it should be covered with grass and available for a private park site. This is what the people living in the vicinity of the dump hope for.
