Frank Dan'mg HIGH SCHOOL BOWS TO IMDEPEIIDEIITS Klute's Pitching Enables Teammates to Humble Nohr's Men by 5-3 Score. Independent, 6; Varsity, 3. Batting Herb Hart, the varsity flinger. with consistency the high school Independents, members of the High Art association, took a tight game last night from the regular school team by the score of 5-3. The game was featured by the stellar work of Klute, the Independent's pitcher and the - willow, work of McKee. Klute held his opponents to a trio of hits and issued no passes while McKee flashed into the limelight with a three base hit and a two sack swat. The game went but four innings, being called at the end of that session on account of darkness. In the four stanzas however the irregulars managed to garner six hits off the delivery of Hart while the best that the regulars could do was three safeties. Varsiety counted their scores in the first and second frames, while the inrinnnnripnts scored in the third and fourth. Hart and Greenstreet counted for the regulars in the first after the fnrmpr had singled and the latter had scratched. Greenstreet counted again in the second after hitting safe and taking third on Duning's wild heave. The Independents started things in the final frames. A two sacker by McKee; followed by a vicious liner of J. Big Chief Stallings, leaders of the Braves, figures Frank Chance's New Yorkers as the real dark horse of the American league. "Chance is one of the greatest leaders in the game," said Stallings. The Playground Seniors are without a game for tomorrow, and would like to hear from some fast team. The St. Andrew's team, which trimmed the St. Mary's boys last week, is out for the city honors. The manager of the St. Andrew's issues a challenge to any amateur team of the city for a game to be played at any time and at any place. Much interest has been arounsed over the coming Seeders-Middlebor-ough game that will be played at Athletic park tomorrow. The Americans have some of the best ball players of the city in their line-up, and Draper's men may get a surprise. Determined to avenge past defeats at the hands of Indiana athletes, members of Coach Brown's track squad are eagerly awaiting the "fist call for the hundred" in the annual meet with I. U. on Reid Field tomorrow. Comparative records would 6eem to show the teams about evenly'matched. Both teams have good mn, and records may be broken. Captain Daniels of the Crimson, is taking the hurdles in record time, and if hard pushed tomorrow will set a new mark. Davis, who will handle the weights department for the visitors, will keep Earlham's huskies on the go to place in these events. Johnny Kilbane has announced his intention of invading the 133 pound ranks. The announceemnt came when the featherweight champion accepted a match with Johny Griffiths of Akron, O., to be decided on July 4 at anton, O. RITCHIE-WHITE. CHICAGO, May 8. Willie Ritchie and Charley White will clash on the night of May 26. This was the date set by Promoter Tom Andrews of Milwaukee today. Ritchie favors a date three days later, but there is no need for worry that he will insist. This means that the two lightweights will meet on a Tuesday night. CALL OFF GAME The Richmond-New Madison game, which was to have been played at New Madison today was cancelled on account of rain. Manager Nohr. of the local team, this morning received a wire from Madison to the effect that if he (Nohr) could send an aquatic team he should come along but as far as baseball was concerned there was nothing stirring. RAIN INTERFERES WITH POLY GAME J. Pluvious evidently has a grudge against, the Earlham nine for the third game in a week's time had to be called off today on account of rain. Earlham was scheduled to meet Rose Poly on the diamond today but when Coach Reagan saw the condition of the diamond after last night's rain he communicated with Manager Stoms, of the Engineers that "there was nothing doing" in Richmond.

NOHR'S MEN READY FOR BIG 4 EVENTS

' The high school track team held its final workout last night before the "Big Four" meet that will be staged at Anderson ' tomorrow.' All men are in good condition and expect to take a good share of the honors. Eleven men and Coach Nohr will make the trip. . Of the four teams, Marion seems. to be the favorite. Marion will base her hopes on the work of the lengthy Veach, the mainstay of the basketball team and the all round athlete of the school. Veach is a young giant, six foot-two, and is fast for his site. Veach will enter the weights and the long runs and is doped as an almost certain winner in these events. The strength of Kokomo and Anderson is little known, with the exception that both schools have been reported as having the best teams in their history. Kokomo won the meet four years ago and expects to repeat this year. Anderson has a trio of athletes in McClure, Vermillion and Byrum that will bear watching. These men have played on the basketball team and are in good condition. Richmond should win in the weight events and the pole vault and should break even in the dashes and runs.
