VALUABLE MARL BED DISCOVERED BY COBB County Agent KndsjjJRich Deposit of Fertilizer Rare in Southern Part of Indi-ana.

What is believed to be a discovery of utmost importance to Wayne county farmers was made last week by A. D. Cobb, agricultural agent. The results of a special test made by the state soils and crops department and returned today, confirms Mr. Cobb's belief. The discovery is a bed of marl. It was found in re-claimed land constituting fifteen acres which had been a shallow lake probably since the glacial times. S. D. Conner, associate chemist of the soils and crops department, in his report today, announced that it is the first bed of marl discovered in this section of the state, although it is more common in the northern section where large tracts of reclaimed land w?r formerly under water. The marl contains forty-four per cent carbonate of lime. An application of two tons to the acre will sweeten the soil for several years, or four to five tons to an acre will sweeten it permanently. Although he did not make the location public, Mr. Cobb stated that the five surrounding farms have been worked out until they are without value for raising liguminous crops and as a result elements required by grain and grass crops are almost inaccessible. The farms are within a half mile of the elements which were required to sweeten the acid soil. The marl has been there for centuries. Replaces Limestone. As a substitute for marl, pulverized limestone has been used in this county at a coFt of $5 a ton until recently.

when the price was cut to 52.30 a ton. j Tt is he'ieved the marl can be sold for !

SI a ton. For a twenty-five acre plot the discovery means that this element will be accessible to all farmers for $"i0. whereas at its cheapest, the lime stcne cost $125 for treating a twentyfive acre plot. The morl is as fine as prepared fertilizer and can be run through a drill. What the marl is really is the muck or silt which is deposited in the bot terns of lakes or sJowly moving rivers. 'I he depth of the deposit found by Mr. Cohb is not known as no borings have beeTt made. ' I wi'l take the matter up with the

owner of the beds and he will arrange j

to open the marl tor puDllc use soon. T believe he will be able to furnish it cheaply and it will still be a big money making inrestment for him. The discovery is a boon to the whole community," said Cobb.

BY LEASED WIRE WASHINGTON. May 8. Three hundred refugees,, mainly Mexicans, came into Vera Crus today, according to a report from General Funston to the wi r department.

The overcrowding of the city, the General reports, is becoming a serious menace In supplying food to the inhabitants. He adds that the natives have heard reports of lavish hand of the American soldiers and are flocking to the city to obtain part of the spoils. That some restrictive measures are necessary to handle the situation is evidenced by Funston's dispatches. The consumption of food each day, he says exceeds the amount brought in and it is feared that the available supplies will not be enough to support the thousands who have gathered in Vera

These are the fighters that wi 1 be posted In the hills between Vet a Cruz and Mexico City to repulse adadvances of Funston's army on the Mexican capital, should A. B. C. m diation fail.

Government demonstrated that 5 grains of caffeine (the amount in 2 cups of coffee) were sufficient to kill a rabbit. Of course, human beings are stronger than rabbits, but there are few people who can drink coffee regularly without sooner or later feeling the effects of caffeine poisoning, commonly shown in headache, indigestion, biliousness, sleeplessnes, heart agitation and other ills. Thousands of people, tired of coffee troubles, have found relief by changing to
