BOGUE INELIGIBLE FOR BUTLER GAME Earlham Star May Not Enter Opening Contest of the Season on Reid Field Tomorrow Afternoon. Earlham meets Butler tomorrow on Reid field in the initial game of the 1914 season. Although Butler has had the advantage of having played several collegiate games this season, I'cach Reagan of the local nine, is not worrying, and expects his proteges to take the long end of the score in tomorrow's game. If the bear stories that have issued from the rival camp are to be taken seriously, both teams will present a crippled line-up in tomorrow's battle. Butter, according to the story coming from Irvington, will be without the services of Silver, the star third sacker. Silver is the victim of the fouryear clause of the I. C. A. L. playing requirements, and will be out of the game the rest of the year. Karlham, on the other hand, will likely be without the services of the old reliable "July" Bogue. Bogue has been batting high enough on the diamond, but his average in German literature does not satisfy an unscrupulous faculty. Leonard or Hunnicut will have to be used in Bogue's place in case he does not bring up his grades by tomorrow. Mound Question Open. Just who will occupy the mound for the Quaker aggregation is problematical. Cy Wallace or Little are the most likely aspirants for the job, but it may be that both men will be given an opportunity of showing their work if the game goes well for the Yellow and White. Bakemier will "be held in readiness to take the burden in case either of the regulars fails to stop Butler. The rest of the line-up looks fairly good. Kemper on the first sack seems a certainty. "Coos" has not displayed any great ability in the hitting line, but his fielding, aided by his great reach, is far above that of any other man at the school. CINCINNATI. April 21. George Chief Johnson, the big Winnebago Indian pitcher of the Cincinnati Reds last night signed a contract with the Kansas City Federal League team, and left l&st night for St. Louis to Join it. Johnson was" accompanied by President C. C Madison of the Kansas City club. The action of Johnson was prompted by a dispute with Manager Herzog, who fined the pitcher $100 last Fri day for not reporting in condition.! jonnson leiegrapiieu iu mauiauu, wuu came on at once and had a long talk with him yesterday at a local hotel. , Madison also endeavored to secure Armando Marsans, the Cuban outfielder, offering him $21,000 for three years services, $7,000 of it to be paid in cash at once, but Marsans refused. It was reported that Madison tried to secure Pitcher Benton, but was unsuccessful. President Herrmann of the local club, who is also president of the national commission, said said last night that he would seek an injunction to prevent Johnson from playing .with the Kansas City club. KENNEY SIGNS- STAR Lenniger, hailing from the Ixine Star State League, is the latest addition to the Richmond lineup. Lenniger has been signed to play third base for the Quakers. This was announced by Manager Kenney today. The loss of Curley, who jumped to the Ohio State League, caused the adding of the Texas man. Lenniger comes with a "rep" a yard long, and should fill the gap left by the desertion of the former Covington man. Lenniger held down the hot corner for the leading team in the Texts circuit last season, and made a record second to none. He played in practically every game, batting well up to the .300 mark, and fielding around .900.
