WORK AT CONCERT LAUDEM CITIES Richmond's ; Symphony Orchestra Gives Annual Recital Before Audience of Music Lovers.
SOLOISTS DO WELL HVIrs. Fred Bartel and Miss Carolyn Hutton Receive Showers of Roses As Reward. Again last night musicians of Richmond demonstrated the abundance of talent and ability in the city when the Symphony Orchestra gave its annual concert in the auditorium of the high school. Composed of local persons, directed by a Richmond man, and with 'soloists whose homes are in the . city the organization played selections with skill, which removed it from the - ranks of a purely amateur society. A representative audience of those who love music and those who are capable of discriminating and criticising almost filled the auditorium. The verdict of the majority was that the concert was a success. What flaws the more severe critics found were excusable when the fact that the orchestra . is not composed of highly trained professionals but of the best in the city is recalled. Responds to Encore. After singing "The Cry of Rachel," Jlrs. Fred Bartel was called to respond with an encore. Both song and encore' brought out the full qualities of Sirs. 'Bartel's clear, beautiful voice. Her accompanist was Miss Alice Knolleniberg. A shower of flowers greeted the conclusion of Miss Carolyn Hutton's violin polo ? Adagio et Allegro from Concerto No. 9, D Minor" by Spohr. . Her accompaniment was well played by Miss . Mildred 'SchjAk. Both soloists and accompanists w?ere lavishly remembered with flowers by friends and admirers of their work. . Two piece . which met with the i greatest approval from the audience were the "Caardas-Danse Styrinne" and the closing overture, "Semirafpiide." The program being long Dijrector Lee B. Nusbaum explained at I the conclusion of the "Danse" that the orchestra was not prepared for encores, but repeated that selection i at the request of the audience. Lee B. Nusbaum has had charge, of the organization as director and has fono "inch to help It attain its high standing. CANDIDATES' STAND (Continued' from Page One.) test efforts to have such a law enacted? "What is your position on the calling of a constitutional convention? "Are you in favor of such a revision of the rules governing the deliberations of the general assembly as will abolish 'packed' and 'graveyard' committees, curb 'one man' power and place the control of that body in the hands of the people, where it rightly 'belongs? "Silence or evasion concerning these issues will be considered an adverse reply." Goes After Whole State. Mr. Crawford will ask the same question of the Democratic candidate for joint representative from Wayne and Fayette counties as soon as he is nominated. Recently Mr. Crawford announced

Eczema Is My Skin Peep
A few skin troubles originate in the blood. But very few. Dr. Evans, exCommlssioner of Health and a famous writer on medical subjects, says: "We shall begin to make headway with skin diseases wben we learn two things: first, that ebin disease does not come from impure blood; second, that so-called blood purifiers have no such action." Begin immediately to clear your skin. Stop that Itching: and burning. Drive out those pimples. Make up your mind to start now and grlre yourself a smooth, velvet complexion.

his Intention of taking .the "stump" during the fall campaign against all Democratic legislative candidate in this county whom he believed to be "tainted" with Taggartlsm. During his one term in the legislature Crawford was in perpetual revolt against machine rule, which made a travesty of the proceedings ia the house of representatives. The recent nomination of Homer Cook, speaker of the house last year, as Democratic candidate for secretary of state was the step which caused Crawford to .get outside the party breastworks and go on the warpath. His declaration of war against the Taggart machine was in the shape of his resignation of membership in the West Side Democratic club, a western Wayne county organization. Stotelmyer Sidesteps. At the county convention at Centervine last Tuesday Dr. Stotelmyer, candidate for joint senator, was asked to state his position on the questions contained in Crawford's open letter, but he sidestepped the interview by stating that he had not given any of them any "consideration up to the present time." Today a story was going the rounds, as an interesting sequel of the failure of the effort made at Centerville last Tuesday to have the Democratic county convention indorse the candidacy of Lawrence Bertsch, of Cambridge City, for joint representative. This story has it that the motion was killed through the efforts of the "wet" faction of the Democratic party, who are opposed to Bertsch because he is one of the Influential "dry" leaders of Cambridge City. Henry Farwig, in speaking against the adoption of the motion, made the significant remark that "there might be other candidates for joint representative."
Have Courage. If there is one thing more than another that will cause discouragement it is indigestion, but you should bear in mind that hundreds have been cured, permanently cured, and at very small expense. Mrs. E. Foster, Lima, Ohio, writes: "I was troubled for a year or more with indigestion. Chamberlain's Tablets afforded the first real relief I obtained, and by taking two bottles of them my whole system, was put into a healthy condition." For sale by all dealers. (Advertisement) NEW ICE DELIVERY F The Rettig and Johnson ice combine, which has enjoyed for many years a monopoly of the ice business in Richmond, received another jolt today when the formation of the Crystal Ice Delivery company was announced. This company has been formed by Charles Taylor, O. O. Smith and Frank Dye and It will handle the entire output of the recently organized Wayne Ice company. The Wayne Ice mpany was organized last winter and its stockholders are, for the most part, business men who use large quantities of Ice. They organized the company because they were dissatisfied with what they regarded as the excessive rates of the Johnson-Rettig company. Sell for Cash. The Crystal Ice Delivery company will have the patronage of practically all the large consumers and it will compete with the old company for the patronage of the small business. "We will meet the competition of the other company at all times," said Mr. Taylor, who is to be manager of the Crystal Delivery company. "We expect to start t our delivery service sometime between April 20 and April 25 with three wagons. These wagons will be large, drawn by horses, not mules, and will have competent white drivers. We intend to transact our business through coupon books, which can be purchased as low as fifty cents. Poor people in need of ice who cannot purchase coupon books can purchase ice for cash in as small quantities as they desire. We are making a canvass for business among the householders of the city at the present time and we have yet to meet a person who has refused to give us his business." BOY GETS CHAIIGEi OVERLOOKS $6.00 Prowler Enters Zindorf Pool Room By Scaling Grating Over High Window.
An alley .prowler, probably one of Richmond's several juvenile burglars, the bane of the police officers' existence, climbed a nine fopt iron grating, protecting a high window in the rear of the Perry Zindorf pool room, North Ninth street, pushed down the top window and squeezed through the narrow opening. Then he opened a cash register, took forty cents, overlooking about $6.00, several cigars and a few boxes of cigarettes. After this successful raid the thief departed by the same way he gained admission to the room. He could have left by the back door by turning the night lock. A few nights ago the Nicholson Printery, a few doors t north of the Zindorf pool room, was entered and two valuable mechanical devices stolen. A day or two later a fifteen year old boy confessed to the theft. He entered the building by climbing a telephone pole to the roof then dropping through a skylight. "I hate to get near some of those kids who have been giving us so much trouble for fear they will steal my watch or revolver," sighed one officer today. YOU CANT BRUSH OR WASH OUT DANDRUFF The Simplest and Quickest Way Is To Dissolve It. The only sure way to get rid, of dandruff is to dissolve it, then you destroy it entirely. To do this, get about four ounces of ordinary liquid arvon; apply it at night when resiring; use enough to moisten the scalp and rub it in gently with the finger tips. Do this tonight, and by morning most if not all of your dandruff will be gone, and three or four more applications will completely dissolve and entirely destroy every single sign and trace of it, no matter how much dandruff you may have. You will find, too, that all itching and digging of the scalp will stop at once, and your hair will be fluffy, lustrous, glossy, silky and soft, and look and feel a hundred times better. If you want to preserve your hair, do by all means get rid of dandruff, for nothing destroys the hair more quickly. It not only starves the hair and makes it fall out, but it makes it stringy, straggly, dull, dry, brittle. You can get liquid arvon at any drug store. It is inexpensive and never fails to do the work. One Dollar Does service for $1.50 this week. Gloves 5c French Benzole Dry Cleaning THE CHAUNCEY CLEANING CO. Auto Delivery. NEW GILDED BALL AT POST OFFICE
The gilded ball on the post office flag staff was removed yesterday by a telegraph lineman who climbed the pole and rested there several minutes twisting the long spike out of the top. The new staff arrived yesterday and today was properly treated by painters.-Probably tomorrow, the scaffold will be erected and the new pole will replace the old one. The old pole is rotted and even the joists upon which it rests are rotten. The pole is thirty feet long and a foot square at the base fitting into a socket eight feet under the post office roof. It was made i weather proof and the freshly gilded ball placed in the top. This Skin Peeler All the Rage in Society
There is a growing tendency among women of culture and fashion to pay more . attention to hygienic means of preserving their charms. The advent of mercolized wax doubtless has been largely responsible for this. This remarkable substance produces complexions so natural in appearance, so magnetically beautiful, artificial complexions are no longer desired. Instead of "doctoring" an offensive skin, the skin is peeled off. The wax peels the skin so gradually, in such fine particles, no discomfort is experienced. The fresher, younger skin beneath, wholly in evidence within a week or two, is lily white, satiny, soft and smooth. It's not a patched-Qver complexion, but a brand new one. That's why mercolized wax has be come such a rage among society folk. The wax is put on nights like cold cream and washed oft mornings. All druggists have it; one ounce will do. Another hygienic treatment now much In favor Is one to remove wrinkles, made by dissolving 1 oz. powdered saxolite in H pint witch hazel. Used as a wash lotion it "acts like magic." GRAY If AIR BECOMES DARK, THICK, GLOSSY? Try Grandmother's Old Fav orite Recipe of Sage Tea and Sulphur. Almost everyone knows that Sage Tea and Sulphur, properly compounded, brings back the natural color and lustre to the hair when faded, streaked or gray; also ends dandruff, itching Bcalp and stops falling hair. Tears ago the only way to get this mixture was to make it at home, which is mussy and troublesome. Nowadays we simply ask at any drug store for "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Hair Remedy." You will get a large bottle for about 50 cents. Everybody uses this old, famous recipe. because no one can possibly tell that you darkened your hair, as it does it so naturally and evenly. You dampen a sponge or soft brush with it and draw this through your hair, taking one small strand at a time; by morning the gray hair disappears, and after another application or two, your hair becomes beautifully dark, t'aick and glossy and you look years younger.
