FEDERALS RESPECT CONTRACT CLAUSES
Opponents Denounce New League Promoters for signing Players Free to Jump to New Circuit.
FEDS HOLD PLAYERS
President Gilmore Says the League Went After Only Those Men Who Were Held by Reserve Clause.
NEW YORK, April 1. What a ferocious, cannibalistic crowd of persons those Federal leaguers are if you care to take the word of organized baseball and its etaunchest subsidized friends for It. Prexy Jimmy Gilmore and all his lieutenants ought to be thrown into jail, starved into a pitiful condition and then chopped 'Into little bits of pieces, according to the views of some of those mentioned above. It's rather laughable and disgusting the methods being used by some persons to heckle the Federals and make them seem ridiculous in the minds of the baseball public. The Federals, taking it from the O. B. people, are composed of joke ball player, joke magnates and joke bankrolls. l iie latest method of attacking the Feds is to rise up and shriek "shame, ehame" at the Feds because they are ; threatening to do just exactly what , the organized baseball people have done sign up men who are under contract, - Respect Contracts. Gilmore and his crowd announced at the start that they would not deal with any man under contract. "We will recognize contracts," said Gilmore. "We are after only those men who are held by the reserve clause a clause that we do not consider legal." And Gilmore and his crowd stuck to that decision. They played fair. Even the persons most antagonistic to the Federal cause cannot deny that In moments when they want to stick
to straight facts. I But in retaliation for these fair
i methods, organized baseball started to use unfair tactics. The Phillies lured Killifer back into their fold after he . had signed a Federal contract. They i disregarded the contract that is legal and binding. The Cleveland Naps made overtures to Pitcher Blanding after he had signed a Federal contract and had accepted Federal advance money. It was then, and only then, that the Feds announced that they would not , play as fair as they had in the past and that they would begin to make offers to men who were under contract.

Palladium, 41; All-High, 13. The Palladium basketball team beat the All-High five last night at the Garfield gym in a game that threatened to end in a free-for-all at any stage. The game was rough and hotly contested. At the first scrimmage it was evident that the battle would result in a rough-and-tumble affair, and only the heroic work of T. Murphy, the referee, prevented a mix-up of the members of both outfits. The Palls registered twenty points the first half, while the high school bunch counted ten. The newsies' score was largely due to the work of Lanning, who scored five times in this round. Mpdearis did the heavy work for the highs. Add Twenty-one Points. Parker went in at guard for the Palladium five at the beginning of the second session. With the Pall's regular guarding combination, Parker and Duning, the highs were helpless, securing but one marked during the entire half. The Palls on the other hand, added twenty-one points to their account in the score book. The half ended with football tactics featuring the work of the two fives. The Palladium five will meet the winner of the Central-High seconds game, that is to be played at the "Y"
tonight, for the Junior championship of

DRAPER WILL PLAY EXHIBITION GAMES
Manager L. Draper, of the. Middleborough baseball club that will have its training quarters here, hae announced that a schedule of exhibition games are to be played with the Richmond club and the fast teams of the surrounding states, here, and at other cities the latter part of this month.
Draper is billed to land in Richmond about . April 7. The Middlebor ough leader expects to have a squad of some twenty-five men in action at Athletic park, and practice games will be played with Earlham and the high school team. Draper expects to engage the Y. M. C. A. gym for work on rainy days. . Among the latest recruits signed by the Middleborough manager is a college athlete named Boulden. This man is but twenty years of age, but is said to be a veritable giant, tipping the beam in excess of the 200 mark. Boulden is reputed to have oceans of speed and an assortment of curves that are sure to land tht youngster a berth on the Middle nine. Draper has also signed Woodward and Sawyer, outfielders, who were with the club last season. Both men made good records with the team last summer, and are expected to maintain their pace this year. Snyder, another recruit, hailing from Wapakoneta, O., is another man who shows early form. Snyder has a record of circling the sacks in fourteen seconds, and is said to be a hitter of no mean ability.
EARLHAM MAY LOSE TWO BUTLER GAMES Earlham mar cancel two baseball games scheduled with Butler because that school refuses to enter the L C. A. L. Butler gives as reason for Its refusal to join the organization, a desire to be free in Its athletic relations. Attempts to make Butler Join the organisation have been futile.
