KIRKMAfi PLEADS FOR YOUNG MAN

"If I know that more liquor would be sold In the city after the saloons had been voted out than now, I would still vote dry for the moral principal involved," was the assertion of Roscoe E. Kirkman, former state senator, at a meeting at the Third M. E. church, last night. Approximately 160 people heard Mr. Kirkman's address. "The blind tiger argument Is inconsistent. The wet forces may claim that more liquor will be sold after the doing away of the licensed saloon, but this is a mis-statement. What is it that entices the young man into the saloon? It is not the young man's love for evil, but the call of companionship, a lively, good natured crowd and the good loafing accommodations that cause him to enter the door of the saloon." Mr. Kirkman denounced the treating habit In strong terms. It is this phase of the traffic that causes so many young men to acquire the thirst of liquor, he said, and added that this question would be entirely done away with in case the saloons were voted out. Mr. Kirkman said that the treating habit could hardly be continued even if there were blind tigers. Mr. Kirkman appealed to the voters to rid young men of the temptations that are flaunted before them day after day. In speaking to the children of the audience, Mr. Kirkman told them how they could help In bringing about a dry Richmond. The speaker referred to the picture of the two children holding an American flag, with the words "Vote Dry For Us" beneath. The speaker closed by Btating that the local result would be eagerly watched by cities of the state and that he hoped that the Quaker City would

use its influence in tne cause Dy voting for a saloonless Richmond next week. A feature of the evening was the selections by the male quartet composed of Charles Towle, Roy Brown, L Huffman and C. Heavenridge. HORRIBLE BLOTCHES OF ECZEMA Quickly cured by Dr. Hobson's Ecema Ointment. C. P. Caldwell, of New Orleans, La., states: "My doctor advised me to try 'Dr. Hobson's Eczema Salve.' M'COLL GIVES WET ELEMENT SCORING

About 150 persons heard the Rev. C. C. McColl, the colored evangelist, of Indlanaplis, score the liquor traffic in Its relation to the colored race, last evening. Rev. McColl declared the saloons do not want the colored men, except to do porter work, and the colored men should have no use for the saloon. He asserted the wet leaders are trying to separate the colored men from their leaders. C. R. Richardson, the dry leader of the colored people of this city, was the presiding officer, and gave a short talk. Dr. W. Grant Huffman gave an addres of some length, dealing with the medical side of the liquor question and telling of the harm it has done the colored race. The Rev. G. C. Sampson also spoke. "In this heart-to-heart talk tonight," said the Rev. Mr. McColl, "I desire to impress upon you the necessity of banding yourselves together for thought, for expression and for action, along right lines. Organization is es-

Kidney and Bladder -weakness result from uric acid, savs a noted au

thority. The kidneys filter this acid from the blood and pass it on to the bladder, where it often remains to irritate and inflame, causing a burning, scalding sensation, or setting up an irritation at the neck of the bladder, obliging you to seek relief two or three times during the night. The (sufferer is in constant dread, the water passes sometimes with a scalding sensation and is very profuse; again, there is difficulty in avoiding it. Bladder weakness, most folks call it, because they can't control urination. While it is extremely annoying and sometimes very painful, this is really one of the most simple ailments to overcome. THE MEMBERS OF THE LOCAL BARTENDERS' UNION. NO. 544, ARE FACING THE ISSUE OF BEING THROWN OUT OF EMPLOYMENT BY THE CLOSING OF THE LICENSED SALOON IN RICHMOND. Such result would mean disaster to many of the members, as it would compel their sacrificing property and moving their families to other cities. On the other hand, it would not mean the stopping of the sale of intoxicating liquors in Richmond. It would simply take that sale out of our hands, despite the proved fact that we are law-abiding, of good moral character and do not sell to minors, and put the sale in the hands of a lot of lawless and disreputable men who would be under no restrictions or regulation. We appeal to the laboring men that this would be unj ust, unfair and intemperate. If one portion of a community can legislate certain laboring men out of a job and certain Unions out of existence, where is the agitation going to .stop? What class of laboring men may come next? The members of the local Bartenders Union ask all Union labor to vote "No" in the interest of sobriety, prosperity and industry. ED. C. MILLER, Pres. JOHN J. DAUDT, Fin. Sec'y.
