4 Read Internal Revenue Records and Compare with "Drys" Assertion that Blind Tigers Are "Bug-a-Boos" and R. C. Minton's Claim that Liquor can Be Sold in "Dry" Towns Only for Medicinal or Scientific Purposes WHY BE SATISFIED WITH A LIE WHEN IT COSTS ONLY $2.70 TO LEARN TRUTH?
There was a lot of grim irony in last night's paid ad of the anonymous "Gtizens Committee." It devoted a section of its space to proving the statement that "You Cannot Fool Uncle Sam." The "Citizens Committee" would be in better repute today, if it had learned that fact earlier in this campaign, for it might have been saved the humiliation of being proved an unnecessary liar.
If the "seasoned politician" who, Prof. Russell tells us, is running this "dry" campaign had thought of Uncle Sam earlier and spent $2.70 carfare to Indianapolis to copy the records Uncle Sam keeps in the Internal Revenue office at the government building, the "Citizens Committee" would never (if they even pretend to be honest) have printed three things. These three things are
LETTER FROM GEO. D. LINDSAY of the Marion Chronicle, published in the ad of the ".Citizens Committee" March 1 2, which stated The brewery has gone out of business. The saloon keepers have moved to other towns or got into new lines of business in Marion, and the boot leggers and BLIND TIGERS HAVE CONCLUDED TO QUIT BUSINESS. MARION IS ONE OF THE DRIEST TOWNS IN THE UNITED STATES ! You may tell your people that the laws can be enforced and there is one town in Indiana (Marion) where they
'are enforced."
STATEMENT BY R. C. MINTON, State Attorney of the Indiana Anti-Saloon League, published in the ad of the "Citizens Committee' March 14, which stated: "The drug stores in this state are not permitted to sell any kind of intoxicating liquors for beverage purposes. The law is very strict in its requirement that the ONLY LIQUOR SOLD BY THEM SHALL BE FOR MEDICINAL OR SCIENTIFIC PURPOSES These are stringent provisions and can be and are being enforced in most parts of the state."
Statements by S. Edgar Nicholson, Prof. Elbert Russell and by the anonymous "Citizens Committee which have appeared all told nine times in their ads of the past few days, stating: The Blind Tiger
is a "Big-a-Boo

Nobody knows tHat better
)jou may be able to fool part of the people of Richmond but "you cannot fool Vncle Sam." than tHe fellow who runs a blind tiger. Sometimes it isn't a fellow; it is a scarlet woman
The pi-oof of tHis 1st found irx the roord book, of the Internal Revenue office at Indianapolis. It ahowa that today there are in Marion 105 retail liquor dispensaries, which have put up their $25 tax to Vnole Sam for selling liquor in Marion. This record also shows who these narties are and where they sell this liquor
Here are some of them : Mary Russell, 518 East Second street. Nora Prine, 435 .East Second street. Lela Sisemore, 507 East Second street. Mary Taylor, 430 East Second street. Annie Chambers, 418 East Second street. Lillian Capper, 422 East Second street. Lena Carson, 419 East Second street. Elsie Hodges, 522 East Second street. Ora Wells, 504 East Second street. Allie Wasson, Room 1 , Koontz Building. Cora Ellis, Room 8, Koontz Building. Spencer Hotel. Pettiford pool room. Fiorenzo Cicerone, 38th street. And NINETY-ONE MORE whose names and location we will gladly furnish the "Citizens' Committee" if they will agree to publish the list in its entirety as evidence that while they lied about conditions in Marion they didn't lie maliciously, but stupidly. Now what has the "Citizens Committee" to say about their statement that "blind tigers have quit business in Marion?" What have they to say about their repeated statements that blind tigers are a bug-a-boo? Do they still maintain that "Marion is one of the driest towns in the United States?" If it is, then God save the boys of Richmond from such a fate!
And what does R. C. Minton have to say about the Marion situation as proved by the Internal revenue record on file in his home city? Liquor sold "only for medicinal and scientific purposes?" Indeed? Well read that East Second street list of Marion retail liquor dealers over again, Brother Minton, and give us your opinion! Is it your opinion that that district in Marion is a health resort that so much "medicinal" liquor is required? And what is the Spencer Hotel the largest hotel in Marion doing with a government "license?" Is it a sanitarium? And the Pettiford Pool room? Of course, Fiorenzo Cicerone, out on 38th street, sells his booze purely for scientific
purposes
f
And the other hotels, and pool rooms, and "clubs" (not lodges) , all these other
NINETY-ONE "retail liquor dealers" in the "driest town in the United States," what is your opinion of them, Mr. Minton? And perhaps Prcf. Russell would like to take these 105 whisky joints in "dry" Marion as a text, especially the "health resorts" on East Second street, and write another article upon "Blind Tigers a Farce." We should like to have him get the opinion of mothers in Marion as to how such a regime here would make it safer for President Kelly's boy !
Oh Yes, Mere's Some More Data about "Dry" Kokomo the "Citizens' Committee" Forgot to Print!
When Kokomo voted "dry" five years ago it voted out 28 saloons. Today there are 34 retail liquor dealers in "dry" Kokomo paying Uncle Sam an annual tax for selling whisky a net gain for the "Hell of a Parade" in Kokomo of 6 under its "dry" regime. The first year Kokomo was "dry" there were 1 7 arrests in Kokomo for violations of the liquor laws, which means there were 1 7 blind tigers that were caught. The next year due to the success the "drys" had in stopping "blind tigers" (because if they can stop the licensed saloon, they can stop the blind tiger) there were 54 arrests for violations of the liquor law in Kokomo, the place where boys may grow up without fear of being taught to drink. Last year, according to the reports tiled with the Indiana state statistician by the clerk of Howard county and the clerk of Kokomo, there were 1 05 arrests in Kokomo for violations of the liquor law; 19 made through the machinery of the circuit court, and 86 made through the city courts! WHEN KOKOMO WAS "WET" IT COST THE CITY $8,186 TO POLICE THE CITY. AFTER IT VOTED OUT THE LICENSED SALOON AND VOTED IN THE WHISKY JOINT IT COST THE CITY $9,049 TO POLICE KOKOMO, AND TODAY IT IS COSTING "DRY" KOKOMO $12,554 TO POLICE THE CITY, AN INCREASE OF OVER $4,000 IN FIVE YEARS THAT KOKOMO PAYS TO WATCH THE "BUG-A-BOO ! " THESE FIGURES ARE TAKEN FROM THE; OFFICIAL RECORDS IN THE OFFICE OF THE STATE STATISTICIAN, WHICH RECORDS ARE FURNISHED UNDER THE LAW BY THE OFFICIALS OF KOKOMO. WHY DIDN'T THE "CITIZENS' COMMITTEE" PRINT THEM? WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN IT SAYS IT IS "NOT JUGGLING THE TRUTH?"
This campaign is drawing to a close. What is the "Citizens Committee" going to do? Is it going to keep on yelling "Liar" in lieu of argument? Is it going to keep on publishing "private" letters that it has solicited people away from here to write, instead of publishing official records, which have not been "framed" by an anonymous "committee
that doesn't dare reveal its identity and father its own statements? Does it hope to win this fight by such tactics?
We would not say its attitude is mendacious! We would not attribute malice to its lying. Its entire campaign has been too stupid and too silly for that. It is the same thing that happened five years ago, when the well-meaning local people back of the "drys' were made fools of by the "seasoned politicians" of the Anti-Saloon League and led into the ridiculous statement that Wayne county had an annual average of 1 4,000 people in the county jail! THE PLAIN TRUTH IS THE ANTI-SALOON LEAGUE IS WORKING HAND IN GLOVE WITH THE WHISKY RING. IT IS A COALITION OF THE PURITAN AND THE BLACKLEG. EVERY ADDITIONAL FOOT OF DRY TERRITORY MEANS MORE WHISKY CONSUMED AND LESS TEMPERANCE. THIS IS NOT A FIGHT TO STOP THE SALE OF LIQUOR. IT IS A FIGHT ON THE PART OF THE ANTI-SALOON LEAGUE TO STOP THE REGULATED SALE OF LIQUOR AND TURN ITS SALE OVER TO SUCH "HEALTH RESORTS" AS CURSE AND DAMN AND CORRUPT THE CITY OF MARION, HELL HOLES OF INIQUITY THAT DRAG MORE BOYS INTO THEIR MAW THAN ALL THE REGULATED SALOONS IN EXISTENCE.
We stirs ehas-itable enough to say the "(Citiasens Committee has been imposed upon, duped d lied to fey seasoned politicians Will it have the decency now that it knows the facts to
admit thesis? What is at going to do about the 105 "Bug-a-Boos 1 of Marion? What has 5.t to offer about tHe situation in Kokomo? Has it been lying ignorantly or maliciously ;
