WILL HAVE EXPOSITION EXHIBIT Commission in Charge Meets With Hearty Support in Its Solicitations. INDIANAPOLIS, March 19. The Tact that Indiana stands sponsor for some of the most important departures being employed in the modern educational systems is a sufficient If-not the sole reason, that the efforts of the commission entrusted with the duty of preparing a .representative exhibit for the Panama-Pacific Universal Exposition at San Francisco cext year should have the cordial and hearty co-operation of school superintendents, heads of higher institutions of learning, instructors and tueir patrons. Without being given this support, the commission could not hope to succeed, so it is a matter of considerable gratification that the committee directly in charge is meeting with such generous support in its solicitations. To correspond with the dictum of its managers, that the exposition is to exemplify progress, not past history, the commission or commitee on educational matters has determined upon a competition starting in the counties and terminating in a state display to be made at Indianapolis chirms the sessions of the State Teachers' association. Hon. Homer L. Cook, chairman of the committee, has written the county and city school superintendents setting forth preliminary plans, while the rules and regulations governing the competition arc soon to follow. Mr. Cook also proposes to take up the question with the heads of the higher institutions of learning in ample time that the necessary preparations can be made. To Collect Specimens. The collection of specimens of work, covering as they do, so wide a scope, with the introduction of manual training, domestic science, arts and crafts into the training of the youth of Indiana, will be a stupendous task, hence the wish is that the greater part of ,'the work can be done before the. close 'of the present school year. It now remains but for the proper degree of enthusiasm to be aroused in order that the display, as finally prepared for the exposition, may be such that ,the progress made in Indiana's schools of learning may be fairly judged. The place of the state in matters educational is generally recognized. It has filled from its ranks of instruc tors, places of high degree in the older institutions of the east, and in the west, where the constant effort is to profit and improve on the experiences of the longer established. Failure to sustain its position cannot be due to lack of ability on the part of Indiana's students, but must come from disinterest and disregard of the importance of the occasion. Stomach Sufferers! The driver escaped without a scratch. SALTS IS FINE FOR KIDNEYS, QUIT MEAT Flush the Kidneys at once when Back hurts or Bladder bothers Meat forms uric acid. No man or woman who eats meat regularly can make a mistake by flushing the kidneys occasionally, says a well-known authority. Meat forms uric acid which clogs the kidney pores so they sluggisly filter or strain only part of the waste and poisons from the blood, then you get sick. Nearly all rheumatism, headaches, liver trouble, nervousness, constipation, dizziness, sleeplessness, bladder disorders come from sluggish kidneys. The moment you feel a dull ache in the kidneys or your back hurts, or if the mine is cloudy, offensive, full of sediment, irregular of passage or attended by a sensation of scalding, get about four ounces of Jad Salts from any reliable pharmacy and take a tablespoonful in a glass of water before breakfast for a few days and your kidneys will then act fine. This "famous salts is made from the acid of grapes and lemon juice, combined with lithia and has been used for generations to flush clogged kidneys and stimulate them to activity, also to neutralize the acids in urine so it no longer causes irritation, thus ending bladder disorders. Jad Salts is inexpensive and cannot, injure; makes a delightful effervescent lithia-water drink which all regular meat eaters should take now and then to keop the kidneys clean and the bloou pure, thereby avoiding serious kidney complications. Poem, Written to Woman Here, Read at Dunbar Celebration
At the Dnnbar celebration laist evening the following poem, hitherto unpublished, written to MIsb Meb Culbertson a few months before Mr. Dunbar's death, was read: I've been visiting Richmond, and dear to my heart is that hotbed of poetry, music and art, Tis a deal little Jewel, an Eden of Bliss, That sits in tne land like a print of a kiss, And the friends that Fve made there, If any there be. As my heart clings to them, may their heart cling to me. There was one (you may pardon my breaking the set by taking one out) I'll never forget, Twas a fair, little artist whom nature had blest With more charms than she gives to a score of the rest. She was sparkling and bright as a picture of Joy, And as dainty and fresh as a new Paris toy. Describe her! be off! I should fail If I try, She dazzled me quite, with a glance of her eye, And my friend, Mrs. Selby, To my sentiment whirl. When I dubbed her the charmingest girl in the world. She was little and gentle and dainty .and neat. And her face was a picture so fair and so sweet, And her hands were as white as the purest of snows, And her eyes, she had eyes and that's all that I know, For I did not look at them, but through them afar To the soul of a woman that shown like a star. She was handsome I tell you and charming withal. With the power, the dullness of minds to enthrall. I would sit in all ecstacy as she rattled away, At moment's caprice, either solemn or gay. But let me confess she was fairest to me When laughingly brewing a cup of roast tea. O' chietest of nectars, O' drink of the Gods! Tour ahead of the wines of Olympus, by odds, And thus would have settled old Jupiter pat Could Juno have brewed a beverage like that. But she's not only famous for the brewing of tea. She's a painter of recognised worth, If you please. Bnt I'm sure If yeu offered her heaven In pelf She could never paint a picture as fair as herself. Why! (pardon a bit of an oath) I wear, When I saw her curled up on that long Bteamer chair. That my heart hammered out a rythmetical tune And my soul started singing an anthem of June. And she showed me the stolen back of a monk, And a skull with the tendency toward getting drunk, And my soul hushed Its song with a sort of a gasp And shut up as tight as the lips of a clasp. But forgive me good frinds, I could thus ramble on from morning till night And from midnight until dawn. So I'll close with a toast to which all will agree, To the "Prince of Good Fellows," though woman she be. Paul Lawraence Dunbar.
