PUPILS USE PAINT ; TO GET "REVENGE'

Words "Square Deal" Painted on Sandstone in Front of the High School Building. Incensed over the treatment accorded Eugene Quigg and Warren Meranda, the two boys who confessed to painting "14" on one of the walls of the high school building, a number of high school students last evening painted the words "square deal" and the number "14" on the front of the building on Ninth street, and on the walls and doors of the school. Just what action Principal Pickell will take over this second depredation is not known. Persons desecrating a public building are amenable to state law, but whether Principal tIckell will take such drastic steps is a question paramount in the minds of the entire student body. & meeting of the senior class was called this morning, and the principal told the students that he disliked the attitude some of them had taken. He said there not a single excuse they could give for committing such an outrage. The action on the part of the culprits came about, it, is presumed, over the erpulsion of the two students yesterday after they had confessed to painting one of the school walls with their class numerals. The principal had said, before a senior class meeting yesterday morning, that he would give the guilty persons a square deal in case they confessed. Meranda and Qulgg admitted they were the guilty persons, and they wer expelled from school and were not permitted to nake the trip to Bloomington with the Richmond school basketball team yesterday. Both boys were members of the team. The words "square deal" were painted with red paint on the big sandstone on the Ninth street side of the building. Workmen employed by the school Board were busy all morning In an attempt to efface the words from the stone, but it was a physical impossibility to remove all traces of the lettering. ARRANGE ANOTHER CAMPAIGNER FUND Guest House Workers Confer With Commercial Club Officers in Regard to Completing Fund.

After meeting with the officers of the Commercial club last night, the executive board of the Guest House association has decided to launch another campaign to raise J6.500 within a few weeks in order to comply with the stipulation accompanying the Mary T. R. Foulke gift of $10,000. Present at the meeting were Miss Margaret Starr, Mrs. Paul Comstock, Mrs. Frank Land, Miss Eleanor RobinBon and Miss Anna Wilson of the Guest House association and George Seidel, S. E. Swayne, G. H. Eggemeyer, Pettis Reid and Cahrles Jordan of the Commercial club. Although the women were slightly discouraged over the failure to raise $20,000 after six days' campaign by 125 women, the Commercial club representatives commended them on the showing. Club Will Assist. A committee of representative business men to act as advisors to the association members was asked and before the second campaign is started, this will be appointed. An officer of the guest house association made the following statement: "The total amount received from the Guest House campaign closing last Saturday night was $14,099.35, this being the work of about 125 enthusiastic women for six days. Since that time we have had pledges handed in from various sources. "A generous check-for $100 from the Entre Nous club, $25 from the Pythian Sisters, $115 from the teams which are still gathering in small subscriptions, has raised our total to $14,339.35. As the teams are still reporting we hope to raise this amount still more before beginning another active campaign. Appreciate Generosity. "We feel deeply indebted to the citizens of Richmond who have made it possible for us to raise this amount and it is their generosity which spurred us on to another canvass. "The amount raised would be considered sufficient for the remodeling but as our original intention was to raise enough, not only to meet Mrs. Foulke's requirement, but also enough for a partial endowment, we will not feel justified is beginning work on the building until this endowment is secured. In order to do this, another active canvass will be undertaken within the next few weeks. "We are also glad to take this opportunity of publicly thanking the press which lias been of such great assistance to us in our publicity campaign. The loyal support of he papers was thoroughly appreciated by the leaders and everyone actively interested. "We hope that the present interest in the Guest house as a certain need in Richmond will not lessen, during the next few weeks and that when we start out again we will find newfriends to add to the list of those we have already made." Landlord Gives Tenant Beating; Another "Dope" Fiend Arrested

Michael Dyke, a gardener, tenant on the farm of William Eaglehoff on the Asylum road, appeared in police court today wearing a pair" of blackened eyes and cuts on the top of his head and on his forehead, the handiwork of his landlord, he said. Dyke asserts Eaglehoff used a tpade on him but Eaglehoff stated he used only his fists and acted in self defense. The hearing of the case will be next Tuesday morning before Mayor Robbins .E aglehoff was released on $100 bond. Dyke said Eaglehoff became provoked when he asked for payment of rent two or three days ago and was informed by Dyke that it would be impossible for him to pay until Saturday. He says his landlord told him he would have to pay at once or he would have a constable "on him." Dyke drove to town yesterday and he says that in his absence Eaglehoff put all his things outside the part of the barn used by Dyke and locked it. Dyke says on his return he asked for an explanation to which, he says, Eaglehoff replied with profanity and blows from a spade. Tell Different Story. A different story is told by Eaglehoff, or rather by Mrs. Eaglehoff, who gave her husband but little opportunity to speak. She asserts Dyke was two months in arrears on his rent and when asked for a settlement gave her husband a cursing. She says Dyke schemed to avoid payment of his rent until Saturday so that he could move his household effects into the city while the Eaglehoffs were at market. Mrs. Eaglehoff also said that when her husband threatened legal action to collect his rent Dyke struck at him and Eaglehoff then gave him a good beating. Arrest "Dope" Fiend. Two colored people, Jordan and Carrie Perkins, who had been boarding in the city a few days, left for Indianapolis on foot yesterday, their action arousing the suspicions of Officer Vogelsong. They were overtaken by the police patrol and among their effects was a large opium pipe, similar to the one found in the rooms of Charles Miller, Nancy Green and Julia Keating a few weeks ago. Perkins and his wife were kept in custody over night but ordered out of

BLOOMINGTON. Ind., March 13. In one of the closest and hardest fought games ever seen in the Indiana university gym, the Richmond high school basketball team nosed out the Edinburg quintet by a count of 20-19. The game was close from the first whistle and was not decided until the final gong. Hoover and Beisman, who held down the forward positions for the Richmond five, put up fast games, each trapping three fields. Ball at center was a lower of strength in the offensive work and scored three points. Captain Thomburg and Hart held their opponents in check. The former contributed Ave points to the Richmond score.
