RICHMOND TEAM READIjOR MEET Coach Nohr's Squad Leaves Today for Bloomington--Plays Edinburgh First.
Determined to make a good showing, the Richmond high school basr ketball squad, in charge of Coach Nohr, left this noon for Indianapolis, where the team will board the Indiana special that will carry approximately 75 teams to Bloomington, the scene of the State meet, to be held Friday and Saturday." Although not counting on winning the state title, members of the team are confident of winning their pre: liminaries, at least. The Red and White five has been working hard since routing Newcastle and expects to more than hold its own with its first oponents. The team, on its arrival. in Bloomington, will stay at a fraternity house of I. U. Every, member of Indiana University will take care of two visiting players. Richmond is scheduled to take the floor at 1:30 tomorrow afternoon against the Edinburgh quintet. If the locals come out on top, Vevay or Newcastle will be the next opponent of the Red and White. The five that will take the floor to battle for the local high, will be cornnosed of Hoover, Beisman and Meranda, forwards; Ball, who has recovered from his recent injury, will start at the pivotal point and Hart and Thornburg will hold down the guard positions, with'Quigg as general utility man. IROQUOIS VICTORS Defeat Black Hawk Seconds in Walk-Away. The Iroquois Bible class basketball team again demonstrated its superiority over all teams of the "Y" league, by walloping the Hawks by a 61-11 score. The game was played at the "Y" gym, as the preliminary to the Y. M. C. A.-Seeder clash. It was a case of too much weight and too much speed that caused the Hawks to fall before their opponents. Webb was the individual point maker of the game, tallying fourteen times. Kampe was next in line with eleven baskets to his credit. Pitts and R. Parker guarded in an effective style. Schneider, Van Horn and Burris did the best work for the losing five, although Clarke, Pettibone and Jacobs worked hard against their heavier opponents. LEAGUE The B's annexed two games out of three from the A combination last night at the City alleys. The A's had no trouble in winning the first stanza, taking the game by a 23 pin margin, but fell down in the last frames. The work of O'Brien was a big factor in the result of the last two games, his scores 213 and 171 swinging the balance in favor of his team. ROWE POCKETS 50 E. C. FIELD GOALS
Leads Quaker Basketball Team With Kemper Coming Second With 35 True Shots. LOGAN SHOOTS 23 Kemper Makes 27 Fouls, Wolfe 15, Rowe 12, While Wolfe Makes 16 Field Goals. Earle (Abe) Rowe this year again demonstrated the class that ranks him among the most accurate basket shots in Indiana basketball circles. Rowe's record for the season just closed is fifty field goals, which is fiftfeen better - than the record of his nearest rival "Kus" Kemper, who hooped the leather thirty-five times in twelve con tests. The lanky Quaker captain has been the main cog in the Earlham scoring machine for three years, and his loss will be a big blow to the team. Besides making the largest number of points for his team, Rowe has been the mainstay in the all-around attack of the Earlham five. Kemper with thirty-five baskets, holds second place in the scoring procession. Logan, who played in onlyfour and one-half games, comes next with twenty-three ringers. Wolfe, who held down the forward position for seven full games, connected sixteen times. Lancaster, Stanley and Little each caged on field goal. Wolfe Goal Shooter. Wolfe, who did most of the foul goal shooting for the Quakers, connected twenty-four times out of fiftythree attempts, while Logan, who has performed this part of the game since the Hanover contest, hit the hoop nineteen out of thirty-two times. Kemper easily led in the number of fouls committed, totaling twentyseven. Williams and Wolfe caused the hand of the referee to raise fifteen times. Rowe committed twelve misdemeanors, Lancaster 11, Logan 9, Stanley 4, Thistlethwaite and Lamb 3 each and Little 1. Following is the record of the members of the team for the 1914 season: Fids. Twenty-two knights of the bat and mitt responded to Coach Reagan's call for baseball candidates at the Quaker school, in the first real workout of the season, yesterday. Reagan has quantity, and as far as quality is concerned, the coach is not worrying. Veterans and- yearlings, tall men and short men, big men and lean men, fat fellows and lean ones, tuyied out with plenty of "pep." Besides the six letter men, Bogue, Rowe, Stanley, Williams, Wallace and Doggett, a wealth of new material that gives big promise was in evidence. Logan, the Bloomingdale star handles himself like a veteran. Those who know Logan say baseball is his game. Kemper looks good for the first sack, "Monk" Davis, last year pitcher of the Richmond high school nine, ought to make good and Leonard, Mills, Trueblood, Bowen and Thornton will make stiff fights for berths on the Quaker crew. After practice the men took two laps on the track, for improving wind. WHERE ARE THEY? Do you know the whereabouts of Henry T. Wilson and Eugene Wisard? They resided in Wayne county in 1858 and later. Their present residence or that, of their heirs is wanted by Sam M. Brewster, an attorney at Poplar Bluff, Mo., who today inserted a Want Ad in The Palladium, if old residents recall their names and residences, they are requested to communicate with the Missouri lawyer. According to the London Chronicle the cinematograph is producing a cinmatic eye, a special disease generated by the. effort to follow the flicker and the unnatural speed of pictured actors. NEW YORK'S MAYOR
HAS LOFTY REFUGE MAYOR JOHN PUROY MITCHELL. The continuous procession of visitors that passes in and out of his office at the city hall each day has ' caused Mayor John Purroy Mitchell to throw up his hands in despair. He has found it impossible to make any headway with the work he has mapped out for himself, because of the continual interruntions bv visitors of all j classes. To put an end to the nuisance, the mayor has decided to have set aside for his own personal use an office in the tower a-top the lofty municipal building, more than 560 feet above the street level. Visitors will be barred from this retreat. ARRESTED TWICE IN TWELVE HOURS In again, out again, in again. This is the story of John Hogan's twelve hour visit in Richmond. Yesterday j Hogan, who hails from Winchester, was hauled up before Mayor Robbins on a charge of begging. The mayor I permitted him to go if he would leave the city by noon. All agreed, but two hours after police court had adjourn- ! ed it was reported that Hogan was ! working his old stunt. He was locked up again. Friday when he came before Mayor Robbins he entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of begging. His case was set for next Saturday. RICHMOND PERSONS VIEW MOON ECLIPSE In a cloudless sky and with the moon at its fullest, Richmond people were able to get a perfect view of the eclipse. The observatory at. Earlham college was closed and a number of persons who went there to get a better view of the planet, were disappointed. Parts of the telescope had been-sent toChicago. for polishing. Among those who sailed from New york recently on a world's tour were thirty-three widows and thirteen bridal couples. Last year twenty widows sailed, ten of whom were married before reaching port.
