CHAIRMAN ROBERTS IN RICHMOND TODAY

Progressive District Chairman Roberts was in Richmond today on political matters and was in consultation

'this afternoon with Mayor Robbins

and Prof. Elbert Russell, candidate for the Progressive nomination as representative from the sixth district. The Progressive state convention will be held Tuesday, May 12, and within the next month Chairman Roberts will issue a call for precinct meetings for the election of delegates. At these meetings delegates to the congressional convention will also be selected. The time and place for holding the congressional convention will be announced later. Chairman Roberts, whose home is in Greenfield, has made a tour of the counties in the district and he reports

the condition of the Progressive par-

So many persons have signified their willingness to donate to the guest house fund that the failure of the twelve teams which canrassed the city last week to make the required amount will not close the campaign but active Work will again be taken up the last week in the month. This was the decision of the directors last night at a meeting held at the home of Miss Robinson on North Eleventh The following statement was issued by Miss Wilson, a member of the board of directors of the Guest House association: "While the amount hoped for was not secured during last week's campaign for funds, the Board feels that the sum raised is sufficient to warrant proceeding with the project, contributions are still coming in and the teams are busy with work that could not be completed by the end of last week. "So many people have expressed a willingness to contribute later that the board of directors and the executive committee of the Auxiliary feel no hesitancy in starting another active canvass the latter part of the month to secure the necessary balance. "To those engaged closely in the work the ned for such a home is ever more apparent. The vision of a home

NOToEEKING LIBRARIAN

A news article in the Palladium last evening , which told of the visit of Miss Scott of the state library commission. Inadvertantly conveyed the impression that the library committee is asking that a man be placed in charge of the Morrissont-Reevea library. The Intention was to say that a reference librarian Is needed. This has been suggested by Mrs. Bernhardt, the present librarian, and is recom

mended by the library board. The committee has given nobody word to the effect that a change in library management is needed or asked for. Miss Soott heartily approved the plans now under way by . means of which Mrs. Bernhardt hopes to widen the userf and increase the popularity of the local institution.

Babe Breathes Through Tube

Breathing through a tube leading Into his windpipe, the 18-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Hart, Benton Heights, is today well on the road to recovery following a very delicate operation performed Sunday. The operation was necessary to remove a steel splinter from the baby's windpipe. The splinter was picked from the floor by the child and placed in his mouth, swallowing it when he tnmbled and fell prostrate. This occurred Saturday afternoon, and in a few hours the baby was gasping for breath, but bis parents did not know what the trouble was. The child grew weaker, and its breathing more difficult, and when physicians made an X-ray examination Sunday afternoon the little fellow was in the shadow of death. The X-ray located the steelsplinter in the windpipe very close to the vocal chords. With only an inch between an artery and

the vocal chords, where an incision could be made the operation was a very delicate one, but skillfully and successfully performed. After the splinter had been removed a .tube was inserted, through which the baby will breathe for a day or two. Because of the slit in his windpipe, it is impossible for him to breathe through his mouth or nose, so the tube is necessary for the time being.
