QUAKERS TO FIGHT FOR SECOND PLACE Franklin Games Here Friday Will End 1913-14 Season forEarlham. Second place in the secondary race will be at Btake Friday night when Abe" Rowes' Earlham basketball tossers line up against Thurber's crew of FranklinlteB, at the ColiBeum, In the final contest of the season. Wabash now occupies undlspted possession of the top rung of the secondary ladder, with Earlham, Rose Poly and Franklin each having ahold on the socond rung. A victory over Franklin Friday night would leave the Quakers in sole possession of the second place, with Franklin and Rose claiming third, Hanover and State INornial bringing up the rear. Franklin has caused other second-, ary schools to sit up and take notice Jn the last three weeks, walloping the Rose Poly outfit and holding the Wabash champs to a 20-19 score. Earlham beat Franklin in the early part of the season by a 20-15 count and hopes to repeat the trick. The Quakers are none the worse for the Wabash battle and with a week of hard practicing should round into fit enough condition to give the invaders n good drubbing at the same time copping second honors in the race. CENTERVrLLK, Ind, March 3. The Centervllle high school basketball team is working hard In preparation for the Indiana high meet to be held at Bloommgtoo, at the Indiana University gymnasium, March 18 and 14th. Centervllle hopes to make a better showing in the meet this year than last, as, the team has been going at a far better gait this season. The local five was eliminated in the meet last year by the Thorntown outfit by a close score, but does not expect to have much trouble in taking the preliminaries this time. Steele and Stivers, of Dayton, Richmond, Thornton, Shelbyville and Fairland, are some of the teams that have gone down before the locals and Centervllle bids fair to be a big contender in deciding the state championship of 1914. HOOSIERS TO PLAY FOUNTAIN CITY FIVE An interesting battle Is billed for tomorrow night when ' the American Seeding Machine basketball clan meets the Fountain City Independents at the "T" Gym. The Seeders have been going at a lively clip since holding the strong "Y" machine to a low score and are confident of taking the number of the up-country quintet. The Independents, on the other hand, are equally certain of copping the game, as that team will be reinforced by a couple of Hudson stars, who, with the remaining men that have seen service on college teams, onght to give the H coalers a run for their money.
SPORT JABS A large sale of shoestrings has been reported ever since Mister Murphy announced that he commenced proceedings with such a simple commodity and "ran it up to a million." Folk are so busy now slipping sympathy to Hennery O'Day, of the Cubs, and Charles Herzog, of the Reds that they have overlooked the recruit Athletic infielders. Can anyone have a tougher job than attempting to depose Messrs. Mclnnes, Collins, Barry and Baker? "What'll Ty Cobb do with the mace this season?'' is a question fandom is asking just now. Ty himself isn't making any predictions. You see he hasn't had a chance, as yet, to lamp the doings of the man who Intends to give him a race for batting leadership. But it's a cinch bet that when the 1914 returns are in they will show Ty i leading his . nearest rival by a com fortable margin whether his rival bats .330 or .500. Ty's habit in the past has been to "see" the other gent's efforts and then go him a number of points better.

MORE TOWELS USED IN SUMMER
To substantiate the theory that boys are often more neglectful about bathing In the winter than during the spring, summer and fall, one only has to confer with Y. M. C. A. officials as to the number of towels used during the months when ice supplants dust. Even with the old Slavic conditions when young men had to thaw out the old galvanized tub and then put it on the stove to melt the ice far removed, and now the white enameled swlmlng pool and the showers the boys don't Bem to fall in line for Increased number of baths.
