26,660, SAYS HUNDLEY Superintendent of Mail Delivery Makes Estimate From Carriers' Figures.
L.awren6e Handley, superintendent of mails at the post office, fixes Richmond's population at 26,600 by using the statistics brought in by mail carriers. City deliveries include 6,600 resident families. However, instead of figuring five to a family, Mr. Handley believes that the correct average is only four. The county commissioners recently fixed the city's population no .less than 27,500 by issuing liquor license until the number of saloons in Richmond equaled one for every 600 population based on that figure. Saloon men claim 29.500 population, while the census of 1910 gave the city less than 25,000 residents. Among the statistics taken by the mail 'carriers are the numbers of new houses built each year. The year of 1911 was the biggest building year, when 275 residents were erected. The number decreased in 1912 to 190 while 1913 was the smallest building year with only about 145 new houses erected.

REMOVES 5 TRAINS
Pennsylvania Company duces Service Here.
Re-
Giving as a reason the decrease in business, the Pennsylvania railroad officials today announced that five passenger trains would be taken off next Sunday. The trains to be taken off are No. 47. leaving here for Chicago at 6:25 a. m.; No. 32, leaving here for New York at 1:35 p. m.; No. 36, leaving here for New York at 8:15 p. m. ; No. 127 leaving here for Indianapolis at 5:15 a. m., and No. 19 leaving here for Indianapolis at 5:20 p. m.
On account of severe storms east, fresh oysters are very scarce and high, but Price's have managed to get their usual supply.
Look back at your chlWhood days. Remember the "dose" mother insisted pn castor oil, calomel, cathartics. How you hated them, how you fought against taking them. With our children It's different. Mothers who cling to the old form of physic simply don't realize what they do. The children's revolt is well-
founded. Their tender little "insides" are injured by them. I If your child's stomach, liver and bowels need cleansing, give only deliHons "California Syrup of Figs." Its action is positive, but gentle. Mil- j lions of mothers keep this harmless
"fruit laxative hnnny; they know children love to take it; that it never fails to clean the liver and bowels and sweeten the stomach, and that a teappormful given today saves a sick child tomorrow. Ask your druggist for a 50-cent bottle of "California Syrup of Figs," which has full direction for babies, hildren of all ages and for grownups plainly on each bottle. Beware of counterfeits sold here. See that it is made by "California Fig Syrup Company." Refuse any other kind with contempt. Ailv.

CONTINUE EFFORTS TO GET CONFESSIONS
The time for securing confessions from Jnlia Keeting and Charles Miller, the two dope fiends confined -In Jail, has not yet come, authorities say, although one of the two is expected soon to tell where opium or other narcotics were purchased. The police, Mrs. Thomas who Is matron of the women's jail and Rice Miller, custodian of the county Jail, have worked together to secure some evidence which might lead to the discovery of other opium joints in Richmond or by which it might be discovered where fiends of the drug are securing it, in quantities large enough for their demands. Julia Keeting is in the women's jail with thirty-five days to serve while Miller still has about three months of his sentence, unless the fines are paid.
