With the closing of the seventh week of the contest shows Russell Taylor still in the lead; Catherine Althouse is a close second with 301 ,040; Ernest Bryant third with 231,295. Over 852,000 votes were cast last week, which is the largest number of votes cast in any one week since the beginning of the contest. Contestants have heeded the warning and saw that all the votes were stamped with the merchant's name only a few were thrown out as "no good." Merchants report that sales have increased wonderfully, due mostly to the contest and are more than pleased with the results.
Method Used in Counting Votes Great care is taken in counting these votes. They are collected each Saturday afternoon and counted the same day by representatives of the First National Bank and The Richmond Palladium. After each store's votes are sorted and counted separately, a chart is made showing number of votes cast for each contestant and at which store. These votes are then deposited in the vault of the First National Bank until the end of the contest when the prize will be given to the winning contestant.
