Peculiar After Effects of Grip This Year Leave Kidneys In Weakened Condition Doctors In all parts of the country have been kept busy with the epldemio of grip which has visited so many homes. The symptoms of grip this year are often very distressing and leave the system In a run-down condition, particularly the kidneys, which seem to suffer most, as almost every victim complains of lame back and urinary troubles which should not be neglected, as these danger signals often lead to dangerous kidney troubles. Druggists report a large sale on Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-Hoot which so many people say oon heals and strengthens the kidneys after an attack of grip. Swamp-Root is a great kidney, liver and bladder remedy, and being an herbal compound, has a gentle healing effect on the kidneys, which Is almost Immediately noticed in most cases by those who try it. Dr. Kilmer & Co., Binghamton. N. Y., offers to send a sample size bottle of Swamp-Root on receipt of ten cents, to every sufferer who requests It. A trial will convince any one who may be In need of it. Regular size bottles 50 eta and $1.00. For sale at all druggists. Be sure to mention this paper. (Advertisement)

his own merits, and not because the representative of the, factory is a king at treating in the saloon or wine room." "Drink has no place in the life of a shop owner," declared William Russell in speaking for the shop men of the city. "Every day workers are compelled to sign cards when they apply for a job stating that they do not touch Intoxicating liquors. Of course some sign No and at the same time go against their own conscience. Leaders Against It. "The big corporations, railroads, manufacturers have declared against intoxicating liquors and have been and will continue to enforce the stringent rules that no employe shall drink, even a glass a day. It has been demonstrated that liquor weakens the powers of the brain and wrecks one's life." "Intoxicating liquor is a poisonwhen the laws of the oountry are made so that every drink of liquor every bottle of alcohol or drinking substance containing alcohol Is labeled with a skull and cross bones, indicating poison, then the liquor will die out of its own accord." stated Dr. J. M. Thurston, representing the physicians. He used a small chart depicting a bottle supposed to contain whiskey and having a skull and cross bones label. Breeds Insanity. "Alcoholic drinks are breeders of insanity diseases. Alcohol produces tendencies toward insanity the same as morphine and other narcotics. All alcoholic drinks contain a certain per cent of poison. "We should have more temperance teaching than temperanoe preaching." In commenting on the speech of Dr. Thurston, S. Edgar Nicholson said that at the present time there was a bill in the New York Legislature which if passed will compel the manufacturers and sellers of liquor to label the product with a skull and cross bones. "There is nothing the matter with our fair Wayne county but there are two sore spots on its face, one in Cambridge City and then fifty-six tiny ones in Richmond, said Mrs. S. W. Traum,

who represented the motherhood of the city. Mrs. Traum was formerly president of the W. C. T. U. In Wayne county. Sore Spots of City. "We are ashamed of our saloons for if we are not then why don't we advertise them in telling of Richmond. Why was not the Fall Festival workers sent abroad and told to advertise the city but yet they did not mention the fifty-six , saloons with a prospect of three or four mora. "I have no quarrel with a saloon keeper, he has a legal right because you men give it to him. Your talk about personal liberty makes me sick. If a man were to Just strike you while you were standing on the streets then you would tell him that no such things like that go. That his personal liberty ended where your body began. "We have more than two hundred women in Richmond who will rise up and help you in this matter. If we could vote we would have cleaned up Richmond many months ago. We would have sanitary fountains on the streets instead of having to drink from a horse. trough." In speaking for the ministers Dr. Conrad Huber said: "We should be our brothers keeper. Just because we do not touch liquors it is no indication that we should be wrapped in our pleasures. We should make it possible that others would not have the temptations. "Christian Love should be the incentive for the movement to abolish the liquor traffic. Merchants Oppose Liquor. "The mercantile world has no place for the drinking man," asserted George H. Knollenberg, head of the largest department store in Richmond, in speaking of the merchants' side of the question. "The time has come when the salesman behind the counter should not be one who touches the liquor. In this age of competition when brains must be alert it is a necessity that the men engaged in the mercantile business be keen every moment of the day and total abstinance is the only safe method." "The schools have always taught temperance," said J. T. Giles, super

intendent of the city schools. "It Is the business . of the schools to preserve and transmit Ideals and achievements and temperance is an ancient virtue, an ideal and an achievement "The time has come when people are ashamed to be sick. The pupils are told that it is almost a crime to be ill. The essential factor in good health is temperance. Alcohol and narcotics are always working against good health. "The school is next to the home as a moral force. The teachers selected are thoroughly trained and have a Christian spirit. They are servants of a common good." Klrkman Speaks. "Five minutes is a short time to speak, but it is enough to repudiate a lie," declared Roscoe E. Klrkman, exstate senator from Wayne county, who professed conversion at the Honeywell meetings. "I have heard . reports circulated," continued Mr. Klrkman, "that a few days ago I was found drunk and gambling in an uptown saloon and I want to publicly denounce that statement as -a lie. "My friends and my family will testify that it is false. I will not fear what men can do to me by false reports just as long as my heart is filled with the spirit of Jesus Christ. "For ten years I have served In public life and when the question of the liquor traffic was concprnp always stood for the side of reform." Although Mr. Klrkman was not assigned any special topic he was given an opportunity to publicly denounce

j the statements which had been hinted about since his step into the ChrisItian life. I Th a m OAtfrtO AVI A Art T7 1 V n Knit a11a.
